Jean Charlemagne Thelusmond

Mr. Jean Charlemagne Thelusmond, affectionately known by many as Charly, Ti-chal, Jean, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at the age of 83. Ti-chal/Papa was born in 1939 in La Tremblay, Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. He emigrated to the United States of America in 1979 in search of a promise for a brighter future for his family which was his singular focus. We know that Ti-chal/Papa relished his accomplishments as a father and provider which brought him great joy.

Ti-chal loved to recount stories about his life experience in Haiti including his joyful moments, disappointments, and sorrows. He was a pillar in our Haitian community, and he contributed to the lives of many. He strived to support in any way he could, his family as well extended family and friends. When Ti-chal was healthy and active, he was a dedicated, reliable, respected member of Eben-Ezer French SDA Church in Brooklyn. In addition to the love for his family, Haiti was always in Ti-chal's heart, so he went back to where it all began. After forty-three years of sweat and tears, Ti-chal relocated to the motherland, Haiti, in 2012 to be reacquainted with the beauty of the countryside and enjoy his hard-earned retirement. After spending just four years of his retirement in Haiti, he had to return to the U.S. because of his declining health.

Ti-chal/Papa is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Marie Annulia Thelusmond; his five children, one daughter, Minouche and four sons, Lotu, Nixon, Champagne, Ebens, and four grandchildren. Mr. Thelusmond is also survived by his loving Haitian community and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dieudonne and Antoinette; his brothers, Gusman and Sergot; his sisters Luvia, Adrienne and Heureuse.

His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with as well as those he has touched but never met. In honor of his life, the family will hold a viewing on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Sealy Cuyler Funeral Home located at 1084 Pacific St., Brooklyn, NY from 5 - 8 p.m. Additionally, there will be a memorial service on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Eglise Baptiste du Redempteur at 532 E 26th St., Brooklyn, NY from 8 - 10:30 a.m. You can help continue his kindness, generosity, and compassion by donating to, or volunteering at any charity organization with a passion to assist our ravaged motherland, Haiti, or help someone in your community.
