Amazing. That's the word for Jeannie Le Fevre Hardy - ask anyone who knew her. For more than a hundred years she was an inspiration as she danced her way through life with a smile for everyone. Her mottos were "never sit down" and "always keep moving." She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, wife, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and good friend. She lived independently in her home of 44 years with a patio view of the golf course she loved. She was as active as ever until a stroke took her from us.
She was born in Cloverdale, Ore., to Dr. John Thomas and Gertrude Gammon Le Fevre. She was the unexpected, treasured and petite sibling (all of 4 ft 10 ¾ inches and 83 pounds) of Hal, Eleanor and Dorothy – born 13 years after they thought the Le Fevre family was complete.
She attended Parkrose grade and high schools and graduated from Oregon State College, where she met John L. "Jack" Hardy. They married in 1943 in the Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. She was the anchor for our wonderfully close-knit family: Jo Ann (Jack K.), John "Fingers" and Carole; grandchildren, Nyssa (Will), Rolland (Danielle) and John; and spunky great-granddaughters, Adeline and Zelda. After 56 years of loving marriage between Jack and Jeannie, Jack passed away. At 80, she reconnected with a Parkrose alum, Robert Harreschou, at their 60th reunion. They married and had 12 fun years together until ALS claimed Bob.
She tap-danced from the age of four until Covid closed classes when she was 99. She was an inspiration to the tappers - an example of living and aging with grace. She made everyone in her aerobics class feel welcome. Her neighbors loved to walk and chat with her.
She was the best mom who taught us many things, but most importantly, comb your hair, put on your lipstick and earrings, a smile on your face and you are ready for anything.
She was laid to rest with Jack in Willamette National Cemetery and Bob is resting nearby. We will hold a dance party to celebrate this amazing lady, hopefully in the spring. The charities she supported are ALS Association and NRDC if you would like to donate in memory of Jeannie. We miss her every day.
