Jeanne Ikerd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 19, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Jeanne Elizabeth Ikerd, who passed away due to liver failure at her home in Omaha, Nebraska on March 14, 2025.

Born on October 4, 1971, in Seward, Alaska, Jeanne was truly one of a kind.

Precocious and curious about the world around her, she proved this early on:

At the age of two-and-a-half years, she went on her first solo adventure, climbing a ladder outside the family home to the roof. She'd made at least three passes, running back and forth over the roof peak before she was found and retrieved by her frightened father.

Jeanne was an avid reader all her life. As a child, she would often take advantage of her summer vacations by reading through the night, only sleeping when she'd finished the novel she'd started the day before.

She was unwaveringly devoted to the people she loved, pouring herself into hours-long phone calls or deep in-person conversations over a bowl of popcorn and a box of wine.

Endlessly curious, she delighted in learning about others and how they saw the world. No topic was off-limits. She questioned the restrictions of religious and social norms and was a lifelong advocate for reproductive freedom.

Her dark humor and sarcastic wit were unmatched, her distinct cackle both disarming and infectious.

She was the first to show many what true unconditional care looked like and believed fiercely in the power of unconventional relationships.

Jeanne took great pride in working hard, no matter the job. She thrived on creating order out of chaos and had a billion life hacks for any situation.

Her most loyal companion was her cat, Monkey, an equally fierce and independent spirit who preceded her in death in 2021.

She is survived by her father, Ben Ikerd; her mother, Irene Martin; her little sister, Stephanie Diamante; and her cherished niblings, Elliot Diamante and Waxmell Diamante.

Though she is gone, those who loved her can picture her now, propped up somewhere comfy with a good book and finally getting some seriously overdue kitty snuggles.

An online memorial service is being planned and will be announced in the near future. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made in her name to Planned Parenthood or the Vermont-based rescue organization Queen City Cats.

Jeanne, you were loved, you will be remembered, and you will be missed.

I am in shock. I was just looking her up to get back in touch after years. She was so kind to me. I'm not the easiest person to get along with but she never had trouble at all. She had an aura about her. Thanks for letting me park behind your house!

You will be missed by so many.
Your love and care was a gift to us that we will cherish.
You taught me to wash my ears so I can hear the whispering of the universe.
I love you and always will.

On the back of dragon wings she rides. Soul full of songs of dreams. She shines bright in the stars of celestial light through the darkest of ever night.

My childhood best friend from Elementary through high school and a little beyond, Jeanne passed away into the great celestial starry night.

She was the reason that there was so much music that I picked up and listened to. She knew how to make me laugh and she knew that despite everything I wasn't as clueless as people thought I was.

I have a lifetime's worth of childhood memories with her into teenagerhood and a little beyond that. I am going to miss her more than I have words for.

I had the good fortune to know Jeanne during her years at GMES. I loved having her on my team, and especially appreciated her kindness and attention in training and coaching new hires and interns. I could always rely on Jeanne to challenge my thinking in work processes, as well as my thinking about the world in general. She was a good teammate and friend. My sincere condolences to Jeanne´s family and all her friends.

She was on loan to our corner of the world for such a short time. Perhaps she seldom knew how she brightened another´s space with her presence, but she did. I´m smiling and remembering a little girl in Seward and so grateful that she touched my life.

Dear Cousins, I am so glad to have met Jeannie after knowing her father Ben most of my life. We hit it off, but due to distance we´re unable to keep in touch. And then the illness. I know if she and I had lived closer we could have enjoyed talking about books, the family tree, current events and cats to our hearts´ content. Condolences to Ben, Irene, Ruthie and family. Warm hugs from me. - Cynthia Biddlecomb, her first cousin once removed

I didn´t personally know Jeanne but I know her dad, Ben Ikerd, a good Christian man. Jeanne sounds like a free spirit and a wonderful person. My condolences to her family and friends.
