Peace to the family and friends of our much beloved Jeff Freeman aka "Dundee". I knew him as the guild leader of The Nameless Ones in Ultima Online where he created a compassionate online community of people who will always remain dear to me. Jeff was a talented, charismatic, witty, intelligent, generous man who is deeply missed. He lives in my heart, forever.

My wife and I never knew Jeff in person, only though our interaction online. Our friendship was real nonetheless. Rest in Peace, Jeff. Sincerely, Colin and Crystal. AKA Mir and Cassie from The Nameless Ones.

I knew Jeff as Dundee from the Ultima Online newsgroup and as a fellow player in EverQuest.
I always enjoyed hearing his perspective on game design. He also had a talent for putting together wonderful in-game events. I still cherish the memories of many events that he had a major part in planning, organizing and executing.
I'm terribly saddened to hear about his passing. My condolences to his family.

I had a met Jeff back when SWG was first entering development. Met him at the Water Tank in NW Austin. Eventually the conversation turned to video games, and I remember, heh he asked me if I’d heard of the Star Wars mmorpg that was under development told him yes and he handed me his business card. I nearly fell out of my chair. Over the years I had many opportunities with chat with him at the bar over many beers.
I can honestly say that I have never met someone as funny and brilliant minded as Jeff. His ideas and ways of thinking when related to game development inspired me. I cant think of how many hours we spent going over ideas and ways of looking in different directions when it came to game development. He was the reason I switched majors in college to game development.
As I continue with school and eventually enter game development as a career, I will be thinking of Jeff often. I hope that in some minor way I can pay tribute to his life through my work.
I just read about his passing tonight. And I dont think I can properly describe how much this has hurt me. He was a damn good friend, and I am honored to have been lucky enough to have known him. His ideas were remarkable, I just wish he would have stayed around to implement and see them come to fruition.
The game development community has lost a brilliant mind, and I many of us have lost an incredible and unique friend. I’m still in shock about this news, will be for some time to come.
My thoughts are with his family, I hope they are able to carry this burden and heal, in due time.

Thank you for everything you've done for us. I would have never met some of the people I know if it wasn't for all the amazing work you've done in your lifetime. I wish the Freeman family the best as they try to recover from this great loss.

I worked with Jeff for almost 7 years, between our shared time at SOE and Spacetime. He was a great guy - smart, insightful, and always quick to laugh. You'll be missed dearly.
Be at peace, Jeff.

I knew Jeff as Dundee, first from the UO newsgroup and later from our EQ guild.
He was thoughtful, eloquent and strong-willed. He was an advocate for players and very generous with his time. He was always full of ideas and opinions and he expressed them well.
I am so sorry that he is gone.

Jeff represented the best of what drew me to the hobby of massive online games. He was a good guy out to find a little fun and share it with those around him. I remember fondly his wonderful ability to be cynically humorous yet perfectly friendly. In a time when the Internet was still filling out it's roll as a new medium Jeff didn't lose sight of the fact that real people existed behind our online handles. For me, Jeff Freeman is a solid brick in the foundation of this new medium.

I worked with Jeff for 5 years at SOE. He was an extremely intelligent and clever guy. His wit was sharp and he could always come up with some awesomely insightful and cutting comment about things. His critiques could simultaneously point out the absurdity of a situation and crack you up about it. He should not be gone already.

I did not know Jeff in real life, of course, but the side of himself he presented in our consensual hallucination was that of a good man. He was highly intelligent, well-spoken with a good sense of humor. He was firm in his opinions, unwavering when convinced of his rightness (which he usually was), but lacked the confrontational and competitive attitude so often seen (especially from me). As a gamer, he was exactly the kind of player you would want in your group or guild. Skilled and competent, yet never focused on mechanics, he would never denigrate another player’s performance or choices in character design or strategy or such. He was a good conversationalist, not the kind to game for long stretches without saying a word, and always good for a humorous bon mot or three every night. Jeff never lost sight of the fact that while the characters and world might be virtual, the people, social connections and emotions were all very real.
Jeff’s strengths gave him what I have found to be the quality possessed by the best people in my life, the complimentary differences that challenged me to become a better person. I wish I could say that I have lived up to that challenge.
Requiescat in pace.

I will always remember Jeff for his sensitivity and kindness. He always tried to add something positive to the online community we were a part of, and he went way out of his way to try to help many people he had never met cope with disappointment. My prayer now is that his spirit will find peace and that you will find comfort in this time of loss.

I got to know Jeff through the blogging community, as he tended to show up at mine to explain why I was wrong, something I came to see he was invariably correct about. He was one of the most brilliant people I've had the pleasure to get to know over the years, and he has definitely left a hole in my life. You have my thoughts, prayers and well-wishes...Jeff is missed.

I worked with Jeff while I was at Spacetime and I found him to be very funny and very intelligent. I always enjoyed his comments in our design meetings, too. He had a gift for finding humor in just about anything. The gaming world is lessened with his passing. My heart goes out to all who knew him and my condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Jeff, you will be missed.

I worked immediately alongside Jeff as a fellow software designer for the past eight years at two different companies. He had an innate understanding of the complexities of the work we were doing that made his opinions both valuable and highly sought after. More than that, he was a lot of fun to be around. When I tell people that I go to work to hang out with my friends, he's one of key people I was thinking of. He was intelligent, insightful, and had a razor-sharp wit that would make you laugh until your sides hurt. You couldn’t wait for him to say something because it was either going to be the smartest thing you heard all day or was going to crack the whole room up, and it was often both of those things. Although we just recently ended up going to different companies, I never felt that I needed to say a real goodbye because we seemed to keep bumping into each other. The thought that I won’t ever get to hang out with him again stuns and saddens me. I miss him, and my thoughts are with his family.

I am proud to have known Jeff Freeman and to call him my friend. Many of you know that he was a singular talent in the games design business - a dominant creator and technician. But he also brought so much joy, so much humor and insight to his friends. Working with him was an every-day deight. Jeff - I miss you.

God bless you Jeff and your family who will be heart broken right now with your passing.
You were a very talented guy who I will remember for the creature handler system in Star Wars Galaxies which has never been bettered yet in any game and the excellent Jump to light speed expansion.
You earned great respect from us gamers these last few years for the communication you had with us and the humor and truth you brought to the discussion.
I wish the Freeman family all the best in these hard times.
