Jeffrey Avon

Jeffrey R. Avon, 27, of Sherwood, Ark., formerly of Mechanicsville, was killed Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, in Sherwood. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, by the Reverends Thomas Doyle and John Seda. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, in the Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices Mt. Vernon Chapel, where the wake service begins at 7:30 p.m. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date.
Surviving Jeff are his parents, Cliff and Vicki Avon, of Mechanicsville; two sisters, Amy, and her husband, Scott Bredar, and their son, Cael, of Eldridge, Iowa, and Megan Avon and her fiancé, Tom Cox, of Davenport; maternal grandparents, Robert and Agnes Gibson, of Albia; paternal step-grandfather, John Fall, of Knoxville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jeff was born March 24, 1976, in Winterset, the only son of Clifford and Victoria (Gibson) Avon. He grew up and attended school in Mechanicsville, graduating from Lincoln Community High School in 1994. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1998, with a bachelor’s degree in transportation logistics where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. Jeff received his MBA from Webster University in 2002, while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 2003, after serving in the Middle East. He worked part time for the North Hills Country Club in Sherwood while serving in the Air Force, and was promoted to Superintendent of Grounds in February 2003.
He was an avid golfer and loved his job at the golf course. He enjoyed hunting and treasured his dogs, Shadow and Ally. Jeff was a hard worker, dedicated athlete and loved to cook. He was dearly loved by his family and friends.
A memorial fund in Jeff’s honor has been established.
