Jeffrey Blake Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 3 to Jan. 6, 2023.
It is with deep pain and sorrow that we share the news of Jeff Blake's death on December 30, 2022. After a three year, hard-fought battle, he lost his fight to cancer. He will be remembered most for his kindness, sharp wit, and most wonderful smile.

Jeff graduated from The University of Maryland as a chemical engineer and then continued his education at Johns Hopkins University. This led to a 30-year career in the biotechnology industry where he worked for several companies in the mid-Atlantic region. Jeff thoroughly enjoyed his work where he mentored many colleagues and made lasting friends.

Jeff loved the water and was an avid SCUBA diver. We enjoyed many wonderful vacations in beautiful locations in search of great diving spots. He also relished our yearly family vacations at the beaches of the Outer Banks. His ties to his childhood friends were strong and he rarely missed their annual outings. Jeff quickly became a fixture at his wife's "MCI" crowd and their frequent dinner gatherings. Jeff was proud of his sons' accomplishments: Nicholas graduating college and starting a career, and Chris on his way to completing his degree at Jeff's alma mater.

Jeff was born in Washington, DC to Ronald (predeceased) and Elizabeth Blake (Teeple). He is survived by: his wife Maria Marzullo; sons Nicholas and Christopher; mother Elizabeth; sister and her spouse Kathleen Gerjets and Steven Kane; nephews and their spouse/fiance David and Rachael Gerjets, and Daniel Gerjets and Michelle Herman; and uncle William Teeple; as well as many other relatives and friends. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Silas.

Jeff did not want a viewing, funeral or even an obituary (hopefully he will forgive this). A celebration of Jeff's life will be held in the spring. If you would like to make a donation in his memory, he would have liked a gift to Project AWARE or Warrior Canine Connection. Information on the celebration will be updated here or contact Maria at [email protected]

Kathy, Betty and Jeff's family, I am so very sorry to hear about your great loss...Jeff was a good friend during my school days.
He was such fun and so witty and quick.
How terribly sad I am for all of his family and friends...
But I am so happy to hear how he enjoyed his family and work and his love of the water.
I always wished him great happiness.
I'm so sorry Jeff.
I know how much you will be missed.

Jeff was a wonderful guy. Always welcoming and great sense of humor. I had the pleasure to work with Jeff at many stops during his career in the S&T field. He was great to work with. You know how I know that, it's because when work doesn't seem like work (he made it fun). My families thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.

I love that smile. But the memory I will treasure the most is how much he loved you, Maria. You were his queen and he treated you like gold. The two of you were the best gift you could ever give to your two beautiful sons. We teach children how to love by the love we share as parents. The two of you were a perfect example. Jeff adored you and it showed. You loved him back. Your beautiful home was filled with love and now the memories of Jeff will continue that love. Many hugs to you, Maria. You are one amazing wife/mother/friend.

Last time I saw Jeff was probably the summer of 1987. He was one of the guys I used to work out with at the gym that was below the Crofton Country Club. We always had a good time and lots of laughs. He had my back one evening in a tough situation and I will forever feel indebted for it. I regret not staying in touch with him over the years as our busy lives became. It brings great sadness to hear of his passing. Condolences to his family and all his close friends. He was one of kind. He surely will be missed.
