Jeff died on September 21, 2025 after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his parents Morris and Herta (Hanflig) Farash, and survived by his sister Elaine Farash and his beloved niece Missy Farash and her husband Josh Waugh. In addition, Jeff is survived by his close cousins, Ellen and Bob Greenberg, and their children Matthew Greenberg and family, Evan Greenberg and family and Jillian Taylor and family; Leslie Brasslow and Alan Leishman; and Robert Hanflig along with the Weinstein and Gluck families. Jeff is also survived by many close friends, including James Bonner, Richard Byrne Jr. and Warren Dickie.
From a young age Jeff had an insatiable desire to determine how things worked. Starting off by taking things apart and not knowing how to put things together, much to his parents chagrin, but then figuring out the way to put it back together. Jeff had a tenacious spirit which was evidenced at a young age by anyone who played Monopoly with him. This spirit served him well when it came to building radios, fixing televisions, phonographs, and completing home repairs, be it electrical or plumbing. His love though, was working on cars. He was often found under one of his or someone's car hood or body as he was willing to share this gift with those who needed a helping hand.
Jeff was a graduate from Holbrook High School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. His interest in learning was wide ranging from electrical engineering to a deep love of history. His cousin Bob introduced him to a company named Analog Devices and Jeff worked there as a research engineer until complications post a kidney transplant forced him out on disability and early retirement. While at Analog, Jeff was part of teams that are listed on four patents, including the accelerometer chip used in many auto airbags and chips for numerous gaming consoles and video games. He received a transplant as he inherited Medullary Cystic Kidney Disease from his father, a rare disease that destroys kidneys. He was forever grateful to his cousin Sheila for donating a kidney that allowed him 22 years of life and was still working strong at the time of his death.
While not able to work, Jeff volunteered his time as a Trustee at the Holbrook Public Library. This came as an interest through his mother who loved and worked there for 20 years.
Jeff enjoyed watching Jeopardy nightly and loved the old classic comedies, such as Green Acres, F-Troop and Get Smart. He enjoyed going on line and loved finding bargains. But cars were his true passion, his 1971 Orange Opel Manta, his 1988, 97 and 98 Volkswagen Jettas and 66 Mustang K-code classic convertible were his favorites.
He was the main caretaker for his mother in the last years of her life and made sure her needs were met with a loving and caring hand. The biggest joy though came from his role as Missy's Uncle. This was a role he cherished until his death.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeff's name may be made to The
National Kidney Foundation at
