I only just now learned of Jeff's death. Jeff restored a number of items of silver for me, and in each of those professional interactions, his sunny, courteous, and respectful personality shone through every time-to say nothing of his extensive knowledge. While I only ever spoke with Jeff over the phone, I feel oddly like I've lost a member of the family. He has been a blessing to so many through his life, I know for certain that his name will continue to be a blessing for years to come. Rest in peace, Jeff.

The anniversary of Jeff's passing brings into clear focus his lively and dynamic persona. A good neighbor! Well remembered! Time passing has not diminished his importance. Respect.

I only learned today of the passing of Jeff; incredibly shocked to hear this. He was the very first person to champion my academic research into Chinese silver-making of the Qing dynasty. We often communicated [he, more than I, it has to be said]. He always had something positive to share with my work. He will be sorely missed.

I´ve just now seen this very sad news. Jeff had an amazing amount of knowledge and skill and was so wonderful about sharing his talent. He polished a set of sterling for me many years ago, which is how we met. I will miss him, for certain. My condolences to who loved this kind man.

Jeffrey was an esteemed member of Preservation Artisans Guild and will be greatly missed. We mourn not only the passing of a kind and thoughtful man but one of the last truly great silversmiths of our time. He takes with him many decades of knowledge, skill, and love of his craft.

Jeff and I had a great day together viewing the Gorham Silver Exhibition-----discussing our favorites, critiquing, photographing......We got a kick out of having our photo shot with the oversized teapot and spoon.

Sincere condolences, Liz, and all Jeff's family and friends. The years have flown past since the Diner's abrupt closing, yet it seems like yesterday that we were welcoming the the two of you, and occasionally Jeff himself, valued "regulars".
This town has lost a solid citizen.

My deepest Condolences.
I met Jeff when he was a freshman at PSA, and my father Tommy Thompson was his teacher. I used to play hookie from grammar school and head into Portland with my dad and hangout in his Silversmithing Dept.
Jeff was a great comfort to my father during his last months with us. He would call often and talk with dad and myself. Dad often spoke that Jeff was a member of the Thompson family and one of his great students.
I will miss you dear friend. I know you have a raising hammer in your hand. Perhaps you and dad can collaborate on an heavenly project together.

Jeff was one of the true greats of metalsmithing. No question was too trivial and answers were clear and remarkable. His knowledge and generosity to all makers, teachers and schools will be missed. Jeffrey, you are missed and loved.

Jeff´s loss creates a void that can´t be filled. His skills and kindness, plus the willingness to share these skills is irreplaceable. There is no one to fill his giant shoes. Rest well, Jeff. You will be missed always.

I treasure so many warm memories of Jeff. It was such a pleasure to converse and text with him. I enjoyed his sense of humor and his kind and generous character! I´m grateful that my team at Rio supported the idea of highlighting Jeff in our "For the Love of Jewelers" video series. I´m so sad for Jeff´s family and loved ones. His shining light will be missed by all who crossed paths with Jeff.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jeff. Over the years, I enjoyed so much the sound of his distinctive kind voice and laugh when he called and I tried to never let it go to unanswered because I was always so honored to get the chance to speak to him. It was just a couple of weeks ago that he so kindly spoke to our guild about our shared love of silver. He was patient and kind as ever. I will miss you, Jeff.

The news of Jeff's passing has just reached me. I knew him as a passionate silver restorer who was only too happy to share his expertise and was delighted to have proposed him as the first overseas fellow of the British Institute of Professional Goldsmiths . Jeff , your devotian to the craft was known to me and now appreciate just how much your spirit was carried on in all of your life . One conversation of many remains. Having been told on my first day at work " we all help each other " Jeff's response was "amen to that! " My heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends from David and John Barker, Jeff we are glad to have known you.

Jeff is missed. He had a ridiculous sense of humor that Robbie and I shared as well as enjoyed. Jeff was a friend, the only one who would happily and enthusiastically join me in giving grief to my own silversmithing husband. Jeff, you have no idea how much you are missed -- for the humor and the deep conversations -- as well as for your professional achievements.

I am so sorry, words fail. I am thinking of you, Jeff's family, foremost in my thoughts. You know all that he was and meant to the jewelry field, an outsize influence, mentor, innovator, superb craftsman and shaper of the jewelry and metals field. A tragic loss to us all. Thinking of you.
