Jeffrey Paul Herrin

I know that I drove Jeff a little crazy when we worked together at the RMT. He was fair and a professional in every way. Left this earth way too early. My best to the family.

Jeff:
You loved music, so I hope you'll forgive this paraphrase of some Joni Mitchell lyrics: "Don't it always seem to go/That you don't know who you've got/Till He's gone?
Your friend and mine, John Railey, wrote a touching tribute in your memory on Facebook, and the news of your passing "gobsmacked" me right between the eyes.
Undoubtedly we encountered each other at sporting events when we were both covering those contests for our respective media employers, but my lasting memories of you come from our initial meeting at Northwood Elementary when you moved to High Point from Durham, and our greatest "joint endeavor," laboring together on the offensive line for HP Central.
My recollection is that you were the type of guy who typified High School Football: a hard worker who didn't complain, and who competed as much for the sense of mastering a challenge as for "the thrill of victory." You indeed mastered that challenge, starting at center during our successful senior season.
Life's subsequent seasons brought only brief "snapshots," filed away in the scrapbook of our minds. The most notable of those in our "collegiate/career years" was meeting the Love of Your Life, to whom I attached the nickname of "Superdoo."
Susan Perdue Herrin, Jeff literally "knocked you off your feet" when you two met...and that was a better play for you both than any of his exploits on the prep gridiron!! To you, Jake, Lindsay, and the entire family, my family sends heartfelt condolences.
Time and distance affect us in this realm, but Jeff, you've gone to a place where time and distance no longer exist...and to conclude, let me alter some additional lyrics from the aforementioned Ms. Mitchell: "Paradise ain't paved/ It isn't a Parking Lot/ It's the place where you are/ And for now, we miss you...lots."

The only regret that I have ever had about meeting and becoming friends with Jeff was that he did not live three houses away. Our friendship was based on our mutual love of music and was mostly courtesy of the Internet. But that did not make it any less of a rewarding friendship. I will miss him always and my thoughts and prayers are with Susie and his other family members at this very difficult time. God bless you all.

I wish we had more time, Jeff. You were always lighting the way ahead, with your brilliant lifeforce. Thanks for always building me up and your words of advice.

Love you buddy, see you again.

Over the years I spoke to Jeff often and indeed, his passing is a great loss to all of us and we all will miss him.

The world is filled with many wonders under the passing sun. And sometimes something comes along, and you know it's for sure the only one. The Mona Lisa, the David, the Sistine Chapel, Jesus, Mary, and Joe....

And when they built you, brother, they broke the mold.

Never had the chance to meet Jeff, but just knowing you through our music forum you were a good friend - generous and with a great sense of humor. Godspeed, Jeff, as you head for that land of hope and dreams. Prayers and condolences to his family.

You were a great friend and s great guy, Jeff. We will miss you very much. Many condolences to the family.
