I knew Jeff for over 25 years, as a fellow litigator in the Capital District, having represented clients in cases that Jeff defended. He was a worthy opponent, and always highly ethical and professional. He made and left a fine mark in our legal community. He was, above all, a decent human being. I am fortunate to have considered him a friend.
My sincerest condolences to Jeff's wife and family.

To Jeff´s wife, parents, brother, extended family, and friends-
Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss. Those of us lucky enough to have been in Jeff´s friend circle in high school will remember him for his kindness, his humor, his smile, and his focus, accomplishing nearly everything he set out to do. For me, I always felt like Jeff was one of the best listeners when you needed someone to lean on. I will remember him with great fondness and appreciation, and will keep you all in my prayers as you grieve his absence.

This news makes me very sad and upset as Jeff was my across the street neighbor and childhood friend until he went off to college when I was 14. Jeff never acted too cool or old for me, although he was 4 years my senior. He was the kindest person and having him across the street from me with his brother, Steve, made that block on George Street in Rome, NY the best place to grow up. I have fond memories of street hockey games and snowball fights with them for all hours of the day. I looked up to Jeff academically, athletically, and just as a kind person - his genuine smile says it all. When people talk about their childhood memories, Jeff Hurd, always comes to mind and he made us all smile. He will be missed for sure, although I hadn't seem him in a while - maybe a road race we both ran. I am dumbfounded and deeply saddened by this news. My deepest prayers to the Hurd family.

I had the pleasure of knowing Jeff since 1984, when my brother Steven married Kristine and became a member of the Hurd family. Jeff was quick to welcome me into the extended family as well. He had an infectious laugh from deep inside his stomach as do all the Hurd men. He will be missed terribly by his family my prayers go out to them all.
