Jeffrey Pennington Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2017.
Jeffrey Hysell Pennington

Jeff was born March 30th 1969 in Dayton, Ohio and died suddenly while traveling in Cairo, Egypt following a vehicle-related accident. He is survived by his parents, Hysell Pennington of Somerset, Kentucky and Billie (Rowe) Pennington of Greenville, Ohio; his sister Cindy Kyle of Eaton, Ohio; two nieces, Staci and her husband Paul Davis of Eaton, Ohio, and Samantha and her husband, Luke Medaris of Tipp City, Ohio; great nieces and nephews Tanner and Allison Davis of Eaton, Ohio and Liam and Mila Medaris of Tipp City, Ohio; and an uncle, several aunts and cousins, and numerous friends.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Greg, in 1998; his maternal grandparents, Sam and Lena Rowe; and his paternal grandparents, Tom and Rosie Pennington.
From the age of three, Jeff began to play baseball from sunup to sundown. He perfected his craft and played well into adulthood. He excelled in all sports with honors and trophies too numerous to count. He was a 1987 graduate of National Trail High School in New Paris, Ohio.
He entered the Marine Corps in 1991. He achieved the rank of Sergeant while in the Corps for five years. He returned to the area and worked in several vocations.
He charmed everyone with a warm smile and engaging conversation. He was never too busy to take time to provide a listening ear. He could be found with a good cold beer in hand, music blasting, and good company. To say Jeff loved music was a great understatement. He could sing nearly any song from memory. This includes nearly every genre under the sun.
He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. In his recent travels before his untimely death, he made an impression on those he encountered. Calls were received that expressed deep condolences from many in Egypt. For Jeff, the best things in life were the people he loved, the places he had been, and the memories he made along the way.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 25, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home. Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Brandon Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris, Ohio at a later date. Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday February 25, 2017 at the funeral home.

I only met Jeff a couple of times. I recently drove him and another of his friends to a VA appointment in Richmond, and on the way back to the Journey Home we stopped for lunch at Carver's Restaurant. Jeff was a very pleasant man, and I wrote in my journal for that particular day that it was one of the best days of my life and I thoroughly enjoyed his company. Jeff was a great guy, and he will dearly be missed by everyone who knew him.

I remember doing Taebo with Jeff at the gym and talking about the Bible afterwards. One of the sweetest, most genuine people I've ever met. I'm so sad to know he's no longer here. Now he knows what the rest of us can only imagine. Much love and prayers for family and friends.

As I wrote before: My heart is sadden and my eyes have tears. I can not help but remember Jeff and Greg as little boys along with Mitch Brown. May God comfort Billie, Hysell, you, and your girls. Prayers and hugs. Love you all!
