Jeffrey Voaklander Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2025.
Jeffrey Paul Voaklander, 66, of Osage, Iowa, passed away on August 26, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a short battle with leukemia.

Born on October 20, 1958, the seventh child of Clark and Mary (Dargan) Voaklander, Jeff spent his early years on the family farm near Little Cedar, Iowa. In 1969, he moved to Osage with his mother and older brother before graduating from Osage High School in 1977. Jeff's roots in northern Iowa remained strong throughout his life, shaping the man he became: a thinker, a craftsman, a humorist, and a devoted family man.

Jeff shared forty-five years of marriage with the love of his life, Julie (Pelleymounter) Voaklander. Together, Jeff and Julie built a beautiful life in Osage; a couple known for their love, endless laughter, and dedication to family, friends, and community. Jeff was a loving father to daughter Jennifer Funk of Huxley, Iowa, and son Nicholas (Courtney) Voaklander of Omaha, Nebraska. His joy doubled with the arrival of his grandsons Kasen Funk and Jack Voaklander, who brought him endless delight and pride.

Jeff's siblings were also an important part of his life. He is survived by his sister Rebecca Brown of Osage and brother Joel (Judy) Voaklander of Osage. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers James, David, and John Voaklander; and sister Ann Williams.

A man of many talents and passions, Jeff began his career in construction at a young age with Snerd Green. He went on to build his craft while working for Henningsen Construction and Henkel Construction, and ultimately started his own business, Voaklander Construction. His carpentry projects reflected both skill and heart; each job told a story shaped by patience and precision. Jeff had an uncanny ability to fix just about anything-a gift he generously shared with others. When asked for carpentry advice, Jeff was always ready to lend his expertise.

Cooking was another realm where Jeff's creativity flourished. A talented chef at heart, he found joy in preparing meals that brought people together. His specialty was crafting authentic Italian cuisine. The kitchen was often filled with the aromas of simmering sauces and fresh herbs from his garden-a garden he tended with the care and knowledge of a master gardener.

The porch served as more than just a place to relax-it was a forum for spirited debates on world issues and philosophical musings. Friends and family knew that time spent there would be filled with thoughtful conversation and more than likely some well-timed humor.

Jeff's love for animals-especially cats-was legendary among those who knew him. A self-proclaimed cat whisperer, he rescued and befriended countless feline friends over the years. Jeff cared for them deeply and delighted in sharing funny cat videos that never failed to bring smiles.

Jeff's sense of humor was sharp yet kind-hearted; he had an innate ability to lighten any moment without diminishing its importance. He approached life with curiosity and depth-a deep thinker who valued understanding over judgment.

Jeffrey Paul Voaklander leaves behind a legacy rooted in craftsmanship, compassion, wisdom, and wit. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all whose lives he touched. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 27, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 03:00 PM at American Legion 504 Main St., Osage, Iowa. Please come as you are, sharing in the community of good food, drinks, and storytelling. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Jeff and I spent many days farming in his basement growing up. We traded farm equipment and ideas. Also his cousin Paul also joined us. He definitely will be missed. RIP cousin.
