Jennifer Cooper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 30, 2022.
Jennifer Louise (Hawn) Cooper lost her battle with metastatic NSCLC on July 27th, 2022. Jennifer was born on August 7th, 1950, in Gary, Indiana, and was the youngest child to Dale Leon Hawn and Lorraine Mae (Conn) Hawn, both of whom preceded her in passing.

Jennifer was raised in Ankeny, Iowa where she graduated high school and met the love of her life, Joel Storey Cooper. They married on April 26th, 1969.

She briefly attended college in Missouri and later graduated from Scott County Community College school of nursing in 1984.

Throughout her life, she lived in Des Moines, Ankeny, Grinnell, Davenport, Orion, and Ames, IA, as well as Rochester, MN, where she worked for the Mayo Clinic and the Federal Medical Center. In 1993 she moved to Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband to help start the Mayo Clinic branch. She continued to work in various capacities, including, but not limited to family medicine in Bettendorf Iowa, pediatric care (infant and toddler mental health) through Southwest Human Development, and psychiatric nursing at the Correctional Health Service Center for Maricopa County. The favorite part of her work was patient education in cardiology, endocrinology, and dermatology. She retired in 2016.

Her hobbies included remodeling, refurbishing furniture, sewing, cooking, history, politics, and gardening. She loved music and animals and was a true humanitarian. She was a strong role model and served as the matriarch of her family. Many of her sacrifices in her life were for her family, whom she loved deeply.

She is survived by one brother, her husband Joel, her children Terek (Matthew) Slayton of Independence, MO., Dale (Molly) Cooper of Mesa, AZ., Lorraine Cooper of Scottsdale, AZ., and her grandchildren, Noah and Jennah Pryor, Lauren Slayton, Ethan Dahlhauser, and Thomas and Joel Cooper.

She will be missed every day, and her vibrant force never forgotten. She was a doting and loving mother and nana, who will be cherished for the days and time she had creating her legacy and making her mark here on earth.
