Jerald G. Crawford, age 75 passed away on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at his home near Sumner.

Jerry was born in Coleman on Jan. 10, 1935, the son of Thomas and Ruth Sheets.

After graduating from Saginaw High School in 1953, he went to live in Wolverine and joined the United States Air Force in 1954. He helped build Kincheloe Air Force Base upon discharge and worked for MDOT for four years.

In 1970, he started in the insurance industry and had his own insurance agency headquartered in Saginaw from 1970 to 2000.

Jerry was active in his church and pastored a church in East Jordan for seven years. In addition to his church involvement, Jerry's hobbies included working in his lawn on his John Deere, working with young people and working within the prison ministry.

Jerry leaves behind his wife, Amelia; sons Paul (Patty) Ortiz, Arthur Ortiz, James Ortiz, Bryan (Mindy) Crawford, Timothy (Lisa) Ortiz and Jerry Crawford; daughters Elizabeth (Timber) Irwin, Tina (Peter) Lytch and Suzette (David) Munson; 36 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Daniel Ortiz.

A funeral service celebrating Jerry's life will be held at M-46 Tabernacle, east of Vestaburg on M-46 on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Skirvin officiating.

The family will receive friends at a visitation scheduled for Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brigham Funeral Chapel in Vestaburg.

Interment will be in Spencer Cemetery, Crystal, with no graveside service.

A fellowship luncheon will follow the service at the M-46 Tabernacle Youth Building.
