Jerome O'Hearn
Sept. 28, 1928-Dec. 30, 2014
Concord, CA
Jerome Richard O'Hearn Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2014 in Concord, California. He was born September 28, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph and Lula O'Hearn, the second of four children, and recalled fondly his childhood in Missouri.
After joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1945, Jerry learned his trade as a cartographer, serving in the Korean War printing maps from March 1951 to March 1952. His Marine career also took him to Virginia and eventually to California, where he served until his retirement from the Marines at the rank of Master Sergeant in 1968 and where he raised his family.
Jerry loved his four children, Eileen, Michael, Jerome Jr. and Brian above all. He was also a cowboy at heart who loved all things horses and could often be spotted in a cowboy hat in his later years.
After leaving military service, Jerry worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Sacramento, California as a lithographer and printer. He retired as Chief, Reproduction Branch in 1986, giving him plenty of time to enjoy his pastimes of golf, roller skating and ballroom dancing. Jerry also was an ardent investor and wasted no opportunity to discuss the latest stock market news with friends, family and caregivers.
Jerry is survived by his four children, Eileen Horton (Terrence); Michael O'Hearn, Jerome O'Hearn Jr. (Danyiel) and Brian O'Hearn (Juliet), four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Renae Heffernan and Jane Long of St. Louis and Jean Sharp of Colorado Springs.
Funeral services will be privately held. Memorial donations may be made in Jerry's name to The Wild Horse Sanctuary, PO Box 30, Shingletown, California, 96088.
