Jerrold Schwartz Obituary
Dr. Jerrold Joseph (Jerry) Schwartz was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. And though family was the cornerstone of his life, he would not have been complete without his service as a doctor. His mission was to take care of people and he did that for over 47 years in the Bridgeport community where he established the Bridgeport Family Medical Center. Dr. Schwartz made a difference in the lives of his patients, in many cases providing service to generations of family members. In addition to his love of family and friends, and care for the community, Jerry had a zest for life and a passion for many of life's pleasures including fine dining, travel, and breeding horses. The pinnacle of his breeding success was when his prize horse, Cloudy's Knight, won the Pattison Canadian International in 2007 - it was his "Kentucky Derby" moment. Beloved husband of Shirley nee Ruthstein. Loving father of Sharyl Schwartz, Suzanne (Herb) Lesser, Michael (Kathy) Schwartz and Steven (Sue) Schwartz. Proud grandfather of Benjamin, Mara, David, Alex, John, Chris, Daniel and Rachel. Dear brother of Robyn (Burl) Fabian, the late Samuel Schwartz and the late Roslyn Schwartz Works. Fond brother-in-law of Robert Ruthstein. Service Sunday 11AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Shalom. Dr Schwartz was like a father figure to me. I can´t say enough good things about him. He took care of my sons and myself and my mom. He took a piece of my heart when he left this world. Please accept my most heartfelt prayers to his wife and family. May he rest in perfect peace

I am so sad to hear about this. He was an amazing man and very good to my family for decades, took care of my Mom from the 70's until the early 2000's and made sure we were taken care of no matter what. Dr. Schwartz went above and beyond for all of us and I will forever be grateful. He was truly a kind caring man and I always talk about him to everyone, he's truly one and only. I will miss him. Thank you Dr. Schwartz, I will never forget your kindness.

Dr. Schwartz was the most generous man and a wonderful man to work for. I started working for him when I was 19. I grew up with him as my family. He was an amazing doctor always available for his patients they truly don't come any better them him. I talk about him all the time at my current job and how much i miss him.

He was my doctor for many years, and they do not make them like he was. He was very caring and if you had to be seen by a Specialist he himself made sure it got done. God only know how much I miss him. My current primary is nothing like he was. He always explained in detailed my issues. Always followed up with issue, I could go on and on, he was the greatest.

My husband, Ray Risley, was a patient of Jerrolds and considered him not only his doctor but also a great, lifelong friend. Unfortunately, Ray passed away in December of 2017. He spoke very highly of Jerrold. My condolences for your loss. Linda Risley.

Rest in Peace. I always called the Doctor "The Good Dr. Schwartz." He was a good Doctor. A Doctor that cared about his patients and would go out of his way to help others.

I met Jerry in the early 60's, while he was still working his way through medical school, and I became his patient as soon as he hung out his shingle. I remained so until the day he retired, and strongly suspect I was his patient longer than anyone else, well over fifty years.
I am truly saddened to hear that he passed. A true gentleman, an outstanding physician, and a man above men. A quiet, thoughtful person, his service to mankind will likely go unnoticed by most. I think that's the way he wanted it.
Bless you Jerry. I will miss you.

My deepest sympathy to the family.
Dr. Schwartz was my doctor for many years. In fact, when he was studying to be a doctor he worked at Rexall Pharmacy and filled a prescription form me when I was just a baby and had pneumonia. He told my parents that the dosage was way too high and could kill me. He contact the doctor and got a corrected prescription. He was our family doctor as soon as he completed his studies.
