Jerry Lee Bentz

Jerry L. Bentz peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Jerry was born in Logansport, Indiana on April 21, 1940, and enjoyed a wonderful 83 years of life.

Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Glenda Dilling Bentz, his son James Bentz, his parents Robert and Elsie Bentz, and his stepmother Helen Bentz. Jerry is survived by his son, Robert Glen (Diana) Bentz, daughter Alicia Bentz (Kevin) Cummings, grandsons Joseph (Paige) Bentz and Nicholas Bentz, and other family including Gael Rucard.

Jerry was a proud Boilermaker having graduated from Purdue University, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later earned a master's degree in engineering and was a registered Professional Engineer. Jerry had a successful career at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing working on important military contracts, which took him to exciting places around the globe. In his retirement, he conducted inspections for residential and commercial real estate.

Faith and service were important in Jerry's life. He was a member of St. Raphael the Archangel Parish and an active Kiwanis member for many years.

Jerry will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is known for his engineer's sense of humor, jovial personality, wit, exceptionally bright mind, and charm. He enjoyed traveling, camping and the outdoors, playing bridge, his dogs, and spending time with family. He was always intrigued by all things in space and meteorology. He enjoyed making the most delicious bread and hot sauces to share with others. He was a good man known for his kindness and willingness to help those in need.

Jerry's generosity continued in death through the donation of his body to St. Louis University's Body Gift program. A family service will be held at a later date.
