Jerry Brockman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 27, 2025.
Jerry D. Brockman, 78, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, went home to be with Jesus on August 23, 2025, after a brief illness.

Born on May 13, 1947, in Algona, Iowa, Jerry was the son of Lloyd and Laura Brockman, who preceded him in death. He grew up in Iowa alongside his siblings Jan, Jeff, and Jo, who survive him.

Jerry graduated from Corwith-Wesley High School in 1965, where he fondly remembered his time in sports, and with friends and family, before attending Iowa State University, where he studied sociology. After graduating, he entered the U.S. Army and served faithfully for two and a half years, stationed primarily in Virginia. Following his service, Jerry pursued his master's degree in Parks and Recreation at the University of Missouri, where he met his best friend and the love of his life, Debra (Martin). They were blessed with more than 51 years of marriage filled with love for each other, God, and family.

Over the years, Jerry and Debi lived in Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Together they raised two daughters: Kelli (Parrish) Wessels of Thailand and Kristin of Albuquerque. Jerry was the best dad-always present and involved. He never missed a school event or ball game, and he was the best homework helper, listener, and cheerleader his girls could have hoped for. He loved Parrish as a son and found great joy as "Papa," cherishing every moment with Nash, Nora, and Abe Wessels, who all adored him in return.

Over the years, Jerry worked in the insurance industry, forming deep friendships with coworkers and clients alike, offering wise counsel and faithful service. He loved golf, breakfasts with his buddies, travel, his dogs, and cheering on his Cyclones. His legendary handwriting and countless thoughtful emails, notes, and messages were a source of encouragement to many. He will be remembered for his wisdom, integrity, kindness, great laugh, steady faith, and genuine love for others. Jerry's faith in Jesus shaped his life and continues as his enduring legacy through his family and all who were blessed to know him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at AnchorPoint Church in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Jerry's life and to rejoice in the eternal hope he now fully knows. At the family's request, the atmosphere will be relaxed, and casual dress is welcome.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jerry's name may be made to Faith Comes By Hearing at www.faithcomesbyhearing.com or Ezekiel Rain at www.ezekielrain.com (checks may be sent to P.O. Box 6748, Siloam Springs, AR 72761).

Though I only knew Jerry for a short time, his passing will be felt for the rest of my years. He never had an unkind thing to say about anybody. He brought humor, a smile and a sense of calm to our sometimes frustrating rounds of golf.
Rest well my friend. Know that you were a positive influence on those you shared time with you on the course.

Papa was the best grandpa anyone could ever ask for. I woke up every day knowing that I was wrapped in a cocoon of his prayers and felt so loved as his Sweet Pea. I will miss the weekly emails and deep conversations that I could always count on, and his laugh that always came so easy. I miss you, Papa, love you to the moon and back, ad infinitum.

Great man of God and wonderful family man. Great laugh, even when paddling a canoe in circles.

Jerry was my very good friend. Spiritual discussions, either in person or via text or email were always met with additional thoughts, and/or additional appropriate Bible verses. We had a good bond in Christ. I will miss his "brother Bob" greetings, and heart felt conversations. I will look forward to our heavenly chats- especially the "rabbit trail" stories! Miss you brother Jerry!
