Jerry Hertlein Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 15, 2025.
Jerry George Hertlein came into this world on April 15th, 1947, and went out of this world with a big bang on July 4th 2025. Born and raised in Vandalia, OH, he was preceded in death by his Father Russell, Mother Margorie, Brothers Don, Jim, Phil and Grandson Masen. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Gayle, 4 Daughters, 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. He will be interned with the rest of his family at Dayton Memorial Park in October of this year.

Now for the real stuff - Jerry did not know a day without work, as was evident by his callused hands and weathered skin. His work ethic started when he was just 5 years old working alongside his Dad, Mother and Brothers on the Hertlein farm. In his later years, he owned his own Excavating business, which he proudly named AAA Excavating after his 3 daughters, Andrea, April and Amber. Then the blizzard of 1979 hit, and he had enough of the cold and moved his family to St. Petersburg, Fl. Here he started his own concrete/construction business which he maintained until he retired in 2017. Ask anyone in Pinellas Park Mainland's about Jerry and they will tell you he was a hard-working, honest and caring man. Everyone who met Jerry loved him and felt instantly at ease. He was an ornery cuss with a heart of gold; He was always there when you needed him and would gladly give you his last $1 or the shirt off his back. If he wasn't working, he loved watching Nascar, spent Sundays at the Hard Rock (often referred to as going to church), and watching Florida State and Ohio State Football. Jerry loved his family immensely and would often brag about his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family was his pride. Jerry spent the last 8 years in Alabama living out his dream of retiring in the country - living the simple life until God called him home. Jerry George, Butchie, Rooster, Daddy, Pee Paw, Grandpa - this world was blessed to have you for 78 years. Rest Easy old man, we will see you again.

Jerry was a true friend in every sense of the word. When Skip was declining every week I would get a text asking how he was doing and offering too help with anything we needed. The four of us had some great times and I will miss him dearly. I hope heaven stocked up on Southern Comfort and water and Beer with the two of them reunited up there.
