Mr. Hoover taught me choral music from 1969-1972, including some voice lessons and the chance to sing occasionally at his church. Singing in his choirs was the highlight of my high school life, and he nurtured a shy kid to become a choir leader and active musician. The Messiah and the Battle Hymn of the Republic have special meaning in my musical experiences. Choral music remains one of the prime gifts in my life and I will be forever grateful for his kind and caring mentorship.

Although we haven't been close these past years
I've known Jerry since we were toddlers. Jerry was a great person and teacher. We were both teachers and I was aware of many of his achievements in our community. I believe he introduced Broadway
musicals into our local school system and they have become a very popular form of entertainment in our community.

I regret that I was unable to say good bye to Mr. Hoover. He not only affected my life , but my children's lives and my grand children's lives.
While I do not remember Jerry, ever, specifically discussing religion with me. I do remember that he had a religious influence on me. It was not so much about what he said as how he conducted himself.
I did not realize at the time that he was only nine years older than me, such was his maturity and my respect for him.
By most standards, I went on to become very successful in life. I have always credited that to the excellent roll models that God provided me with.
Thank you Mr. Hoover. Thanks to you , All of my children have solid marrage's, collaae degree's and Christian families. my 10 grandchildren are as well educated and my oldest grandson has his Phd. in opera and has sung at the Metroplitan Opera New York City. You and Dr. Baum would have been great friends.
So long Jerry , I will see you in a short while. I finally learned to read music and play a guitar. we can make a beautiful noise together.

Mr. Hoover was my vocal coach not too long ago! He had this way about sharing his passion about music! He taught me so much, and was truly a loving and giving man! He will be missed dearly! But his impact on his students will live on!

NORTH HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1966.
March 24, 2019
Mr. Hoover was my choir director from 1967 until I graduated from North HS in 1971. As so many have mentioned, he was wonderful! The opportunities that he provided for me make up the best memories from my high school years. My heart goes out to all who loved him (and that includes any number of his students as well as his family). May you be comforted knowing that he will be long remembered by many, many people. Though his song is finished here, I have no doubt that heaven's choir just welcomed another voice! May the God of peace (and music)surround you now and in all the days ahead.
