Jerry Price Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 7 to Mar. 9, 2017.
Jerry Frank Price

Memorial Services for Jerry Frank Price, 85, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at The Chapel at The Oaks, 600 E. Flournoy Lucas Road, Shreveport, LA 71115. Officiating will be Rev. Jack O'Dell. A reception to celebrate his life will be held immediately after the service in the Arbor Room in the Savannah at The Oaks. Please dress in casual attire, as this was Jerry's request.

Jerry was born December 12, 1931 in Springfield, MO to Frank and Laura Price and passed away on March 5, 2017 in Shreveport, LA. Jerry served in the Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base prior to completing his degree in Business Administration from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. After completing his degree he began his career at Pennzoil Oil in Shreveport, LA. He later transferred to Sidewinder in Minden, LA, as the Personnel Manager, beginning a long career with what became FMC Corporation in Arkansas and Florida. He retired as the Vice President of Human Resources of the Agricultural Machinery Division of FMC. Several years later he supported his daughter in her business in Houston, TX, as the interim HR Director.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with the "Thursday night" group from his church. He loved cruising, at one point he and his wife Carol were among the top 10 cruisers in Royal Caribbean International. He enjoyed playing games, particularly board games, card games, and Yahtzee. Most recently he was a proud member of the Savannah Swingers, a beanbag baseball team. He was also an avid reader of mysteries and legal thrillers. He enjoyed spending time with his friends from Minden, LA. He was proud to be a member of the Benton, LA chapter of the Masonic Lodge and the Lions Club of Bossier City. He loved all the activities, friends, and staff at the Savannah at The Oaks, said it was just like living on a cruise ship! Many thanks to all their employees who made his last 4.5 years so enjoyable.

He was proud of both his daughters, constantly encouraging them in all their endeavors. He loved bragging about the accomplishments of his two granddaughters and enjoyed spending time with his entire family, especially during the holidays (including all the grand-dogs!).

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Carol Price; his parents; his sister Martha Prier and brother-in-law Fred Prier; his in-laws, Addie and Dixon Oliver; and brothers-in-law W.D. Oliver, Jr. and Harry Creech.

Jerry leaves behind his daughters, Sandy Johnson and husband Doug, and Pam Price; sisters-in-law, Brenda Pons and husband Paul, and Clarice Creech; sister-in-law, Lydia Mae Oliver, and grandchildren, Kelly Page and husband Jack (and future great-grandson Jackson) and Lori Mallini and her boyfriend, Vincenzo DiNicolantonio. He is also survived by his nieces Jennifer Carrier, Kim Schulze, and Cheryl Prier, and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sharon and Karen O'Dell Seminary Scholarship Fund at FUMC Minden, 903 Broadway, Minden LA 71055 or the American Heart Association, Memorials/Tributes, P. O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.

The Final Salute

Brothers in Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to Jerry Frank Price our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jerry. And to Jerry it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Jerry, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 961 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jerry's family and loved ones.
