Jesse Mena Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 9, 2020.
Jesse Louis Mena, age 73, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 in San Antonio. Jesse was born in Post, Texas to Jose Mena and Luisa Nerios Mena. He served proudly and with distinction in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to 1970, including a tour in Vietnam from 1967-1968 as a Marine helicopter crew chief. He braved the warfare of Vietnam in the Battle of Khe Sanh assisting wounded Marines in medical evacuation missions. His brave actions awarded him, among many other accolades, a Silver Star, the Navy Presidential Unit Citation and an Air Medal for meritorious achievement in flight. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines never left him as friends and family will attest. In his later years he enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren, the outdoors and fishing. He is survived by his three daughters: Jennifer Hernandez, Roxanne Mena Phatak and Marisa Mena; six grandchildren: Maraya Mena, Joey Maldonado Jr., Michael Hernandez II, Alyssa D. Phatak, Mason Hernandez and Giavanna Anthony; and two siblings: Delfina Castillo and Ruth Montes. The family will receive friends from 9:00am to 10:00am, on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Porter Loring McCullough. MEMORIAL SERVICE TUESDAY, JUNE 30, 2020 10:00 AM PORTER LORING CHAPEL Deacon Lorenzo Valdez will be officiating. A private interment will be held for family at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Our prayers for spiritual peace for the family. We are still in disbelief, way too young to go home. Chito is and will be sorely missed until we see him again soon with the rest of the family that precedes us to eternity with Jesus Christ and all the saints. I'm sure he's having a great time now with no pain, sorrow or painful memories. Love you all and May God Bless and cover you with His Protection, Love and Grace
