Jessie Alice Brunson

Jessie Alice Brunson, 69, of Columbus, was called home July 16, 2023 after suffering for 3 years with a debilitating illness. She was surrounded by loved ones at her sister's house in Pine Mountain, Ga. at the time of her passing. Jessie was a loving and caring woman with a nurturing heart and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Jessie was born April 8, 1954 in Shirley Massachusetts. Her family would later settle in Columbus, Ga. Once there she attended Baker High School where she would meet her future husband, David Michael Brunson. After graduating they soon had a son, David Michael Brunson Jr, and started a family of their own.

She started her career as an executive secretary at Tom's Foods where she worked for 17 years. While there she gained valuable business experience that would serve her well later in life and made many new friends. She ended her working days at Swift Galley serving as a Human Resources manager, a job in which she flourished and loved.

Jessie was much like her father with her great inner strength and determination. Jessie had a great love of family, always putting their needs ahead of her own. She was devoted to her mother, being her primary caregiver for the final eight years of her mother's life.

Ms. Brunson is preceded in death by her parents, Frank A Strickland Sr. and Dovie Lee Phillips Strickland, a sister, Regina Strickland Matthews, a brother, Frank A Strickland Jr., two nephews, Jackie Ladon Goodson and Shaun Christopher "Bo" Graham, and former husband, David Michael Brunson Sr.

She is survived by her son, David Michael Brunson Jr (Stephanie) of Columbus, sisters, Gloria Russell Goodson ( Bill) of Elamville, Al., Susan Strickland Graham (Charlie) of Columbus, Janet Strickland Parker (Tommy) of Pine Mountain, Ga., nieces, Debbie Dawkins (Tommy), Kristi Hornyak (Joel), Stephanie Davenport (Zack), April Neal (Greg), nephew, Thomas Strickland (Stephanie), six great nieces and nephews and three great great nieces.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday July 22, 2023 at 3:00 pm in Edgewood Hall of Striffler - Hamby, Columbus, Ga. Family will visit with friends one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery. Fond memories and condolences can be shared at http://www.shcolumbus.com.
