Jesus Vazquez Diaz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 23, 2020.
It is with a heavy heart that the Vazquez family announces the passing of their patriarch.
                                                   Jesus Vazquez Diaz

On Saturday, June 20, 2020, Jesus Vazquez, loving husband and father of 10 children, 30 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, passed away at the age of 88. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his loving family. It took place at home during the late afternoon, one day after his 55th wedding anniversary to Socorro Vazquez.

Jesus was born on July 1, 1931 in Mexico. Our father was a simple man with a simple view on life. His mantra was: you work hard and you will be rewarded. He had a dream and it is alive in all of his children, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He wanted as many children as God would send him. As “El Rey,” he paved the way for all of us. Born in the mountains in Mexico he had a vision. The American dream. He immigrated to the United States with only $2.50 to his name. From those humble beginnings he was able to eventually fulfill one of his lifelong goals of opening a Mexican Restaurant. Through it all and always by his side was our mother, Socorro. They married June 19, 1965. The two of them stayed together until his last day, she was by his side when he took his last breath.

Jesús Vazquez is survived by his wife, three daughters, six sons, 29 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Another one of his dreams was to have a tight knit family that understood the bond between them all. He loved having everyone over at the house and seeing the children play, walk, swim, and grow. Jesus Vazquez was a people person, always ready to welcome everyone.  On Thanksgiving Day, thanking his family for being there with his wife to celebrate our bond was a favorite moment for everyone. He would talk to whomever would lend him an ear including random people on the radio, that quickly understood his hard stances on politics, family, and life. He was a lover and a fighter; not letting disease control his life and making his own choices on how he would go until the very last moment. The strength in Jesus Vazquez was evident in the way he wanted to leave this earth, at home, during a pandemic, surrounded only by those he loved most: his family.

As a friend of Jesus’ daughter, Carmen, I loved joining their family gatherings. A highlight was always Jesus’ warm welcome and inclusion as an honorary daughter. He was an amazing listener and a loving friend.
