Jewel Smith Obituary
Mrs. Smith was born on October 28, 1924, and lived in Richland, MS, for 70 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Richland and a member of Plainview Chapter No. 357 Order of the Eastern Star.
Before retiring in 1998, she worked at Woman's Hospital in Flowood, MS, as the receptionist and PBX operator for 23 years.
She loved her family and friends and was never a stranger to anyone.
Visitation will be Friday, October 20, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 10:00 am until funeral services at 11:00 am at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow at Richland City Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, C. E. Smith, parents Sid and Minnie Blackwell, and siblings Lewis, Lloyd, Horace, Ann, Christine, Cecil, and Fred.
She is survived by sons Sidney (Becky) Smith of Byram, Rob (Pam) Smith of Florence, Joe (Jonce') Smith of Terry, and daughters Judy Pitts of Richland and Becky Smith of Brandon. She is also survived by sisters Nell (Jerald) Kennedy of Magee and Linda (Stan) Roberts of Hattiesburg.
She is survived by 13 grandchildren: Michael (Jene') Smith, Leslie (Joe) Hill, Spencer (April) Smith, Penni (Justin) Foster, Kristin Weaver, Kandace (Mark) Rowe, Jeff Pitts, Tara (Trey) Clark, Karlie Smith, Nate Anderson, Suzanne (Lee) Walker, Karla (Joe) Sarmiento, and Robin (Nathan) Renick. She is also survived by 38 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Richland or Richland City Cemetery.

This lady had a astounding impact on me. She was a very dear friend since my young teens. I visited her every day and she taught me many many things! The most important was to be strong and survive on my own! I can never repay her for her gift of friendship and the countless lessons she bestowed! I talked with her periodically and shared pictures from my life! The last time we spoke was right before her passing! I truly wish someone had informed me of her passing but I understand that probably she was the only person aware of how to reach me. Some one from the family please call me 270-206-8784

I did not know it in time.
I know the pain and sorrow that each of you are feeling. Even though we know our loved one is in a better place, the physical being is missed so much. Words can't adequately describe my sorrow. I am heartbroken for those of us that loved Aunt Jewel because we won't have the opportunity to hear her sweet voice or experience the love, wit and wisdom that she gave so freely. At the same time, I rejoice that she has "gone home to the Lord" as she's been praying for since her illness took away her mobility. I loved Aunt Jewel with my all of my heart. She accepted me unconditionally as part of her family and losing her is like losing my Mom. Her strength was an inspiration. I will always cherish the time we spent together. We always looked so forward to her calls and her visits to Maryland and New York or our visits to Mississippi.
Her family is in my prayers always. May God give you strength at this most difficult time.
