Jim Lekberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 10, 2025.
Jim Lekberg, 78, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, in Worcester, Massachusetts, surrounded by his immediate family. A devoted family man, accomplished professional, and proud veteran, Jim lived a life marked by integrity, quiet strength, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of the world around him.

Born on July 14, 1946, in Watsonville, California, Jim moved to Massachusetts as a child and graduated from Westborough High School in the class of 1964. It was there that he met Rebecca, his high school sweetheart and future wife. Their enduring partnership was a cornerstone of his life until her passing in 2016.

Jim pursued higher education with determination and purpose. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University in 1968 and later completed an MBA at the University of Massachusetts. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career in finance. Through dedication and perseverance, Jim rose through the ranks to become Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. subsidiary of Atlas Copco in Holyoke, Massachusetts-a role he held with distinction.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Jim enlisted and served honorably in the United States Army. He quickly rose through the ranks to become a drill sergeant at Fort Dix for two years, he exemplified leadership and discipline while shaping new recruits with fairness and resolve.

Jim's life was enriched by many passions outside of work. He found solace in nature-whether fishing on a quiet morning at his beloved lake house in Washington, Nh, or exploring new destinations through travel. A skilled carpenter with a keen eye for detail, he enjoyed working with his hands just as much as exercising his mind with crossword puzzles or immersing himself in a good book. Those who knew him admired his thoughtful demeanor, gentle spirit, and unwavering moral compass.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Jody; son-in-law Aaron; grandchildren Eli, Annika, and Noah; brothers Eric Lekberg of Chelmsford and Paul Lekberg of Sterling; sister Gwen LeBlanc of Milford; as well as several nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him.

Jim's legacy lives on through the values he instilled in those around him-honesty, humility, hard work-and through the memories shared by all who had the privilege to know him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.

A DU fraternity brother and teammate. Spent many hours with him cramming for history test after his kitchen chores at the DU house. Good man in all respects. His obit aptly identifies his character. He will be missed.

I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to Jim's family. It is difficult to put all of my emotions into words. I am grateful to have been able to talk to Jim on the phone during his final days. Our friendship goes back to 1970 when Jim and I began our graduate program at UMass at Amherst, struggling through some of the same courses. That friendship was to endure a lifetime, involving many family visits in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and even in Switzerland and Italy, extending to our families. We shared the highs and the difficult times of life. Jim was a wonderful friend, easy to talk to about anything from sports to history and business. He lived an exemplary life, was steady in his friendship, and will be sorely missed. May his legacy as a human being live on through his children and grandchildren.

I will miss my lifelong friend. I treasure all the memories of so many years growing up together in Westboro and then the years we shared as couples as our children grew up together. The holidays, trips, the lake, all the special celebrations over the last 60 plus years. I know you are with Becky and happy to be together again. I am grateful to have had you both in my life. Love, Sheila
