Jim Schweigert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 30, 2025.
Springfield - Jim Schweigert, 77, passed away on July 11, 2025, in Springfield, Oregon. He was born on September 27, 1947, in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

A graduate of Klamath Falls High School in the Class of 1965, Jim went on to earn a master's degree in education from the University of Oregon and later completed his school administrator certification. He began as an AP English teacher at Junction City High School before moving into administrative roles as assistant principal at both Astoria High School and Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis. He later served as principal at Wilson Elementary School in Corvallis. Even after retiring from education, Jim continued to lead and mentor others as a supervisor at Symantec and was an ombudsman for several years.

Jim's personal life was very full. For 40 years, he shared his life with the love of his life, Sheri Schweigert. Together they built a blended family : son Chris Schweigert (Julie); daughter Kelly Kent (Santi); stepdaughters Sara Gill (Matt); and Emily Watts (Sean); and nine beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister Barbara Prucknicki and brothers- in- law, Chris Vigeland and Rik Vigeland.

Jim had a lifelong love of music that began early-he played in a rock band during high school and college with his best friend since fifth grade, Percy Franklin. He also had an impressive collection of signed first editions books.

An Eagle Scout at just 13 years old, Jim carried that spirit of adventure into adulthood. He was a high-speed performance driving coach at tracks throughout the Northwest and enjoyed driving on various tracks across California. Whether coaching others or taking the wheel himself, he loved driving fast!

Jim also loved dancing-he once won a dance contest with Sheri-and was always ready to play games with his grandchildren. A fan of Oregon Duck football and the LA Chargers, he looked forward to each season.

Those who knew Jim remember him as kind, loving, fun-loving, and full of life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, mentor, and friend.

We miss you , Jim. May your memory bring comfort to all who knew you.
