BONHAM - Jimmy Lee Burns, 71, of Bonham went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 26, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Bois D' Arc Creek Cowboy Church. Rev. Kevin Lane will officiate with Rev. Larry Blain delivering the obituary and eulogy. Interment will follow at Hampton Cemetery.
Jimmy Lee Burns was born on Sept. 20, 1938 in Albany, Okla. He was the son of David Lee Burns and Frances Route Burns. He married Virginia "Ginger" (Jones) Burns on Aug. 8, 1958 in Edhube. Jim worked for 30 years at Carter Chevrolet as a service manager in the service department.
He spent his retirement years working in his lawn mower shop in Bonham (Jim's Small Engine Service and Repair). Jim was a hard worker and would do anything for you; he enjoyed working with his hands. Jim was a member of the Bois Di Arc Creek Cowboy Church where he enjoyed singing and fellowshipping with his friends and family.
Jim also enjoyed square dance calling. He called professionally all over Texas and Oklahoma. Jim was a member of National Texas Caller Association and National Caller Lab. He called for 16 years for Lake Side Dude's and Dolls in Pottsboro. He was Club caller for Texoma Square Dance Club in Denison at the time of his death. Jim was a loving husband, and father. He loved all of his family, friends, and his beloved cat Daisy. Jim will be dearly missed by his family, and all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Virginia (Ginger) Burns of Bonham; one son Steve Burns and wife Angie of Paris; a daughter Cathy Melton and husband Everett of Trenton; grandchildren, Michael Caplinger of Trenton, Steven Caplinger and wife Jamie of Bonham and Ashley Rae Burns of Anna; siblings, Stella Stewart and husband Raymond of Bonham, Jeanette Pickerill and husband David of Wills Point, Wayne Burns and wife Pat of Bailey, Faye Kelly of Bonham and Kolline Whitley of Durant, Okla.; and beloved mother-in-law Beatrice Jones of Bonham. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Mary Blain, Kay Hughes, Joyce Amlin, Lucille Burks and Juanita Burns.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Jones, Bryan Judd, Don Jones, Ted Watkins, Paul Phillips and Cory Price.
Family visitation was held from 6:30 -9 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.
