Jimmy R. Melton Sr.

Jimmy Ross Melton Sr, 84, was called home by the Lord on Friday, December 4th, 2015 at Scott & White Hospital in Round Rock following a brief illness. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Joycelyn Eileen Melton; Children, Jim Melton Jr and wife Kay of Amarillo TX, Glen Melton and wife Vicki of Hutto TX, Joey Melton Sr. and wife Sharon of Hutto TX, Bret Melton and wife Eva of Hutto TX, Chris Melton and wife Lori of Hutto TX; Grandchildren, Shane Melton of Keene TX, Leah Melton of Hutto TX, Kallie Hubnik and husband Brian of Cameron TX, TJ Barclay Jr. of Amarillo TX, Tabatha Davis and husband David of Happy TX, Derik Melton and wife Brittney of Houston TX, Janeane Melton of Hutto TX, Joey Melton Jr and wife Jessica of Schulenburg TX, Juanda Reyes and husband Kris of Hutto TX, Joleen Cowdry and husband James of Lampasas TX, Devon Melton and wife Nicole of Taylor TX, Brittany Lane and husband Chris of Buda TX, JaNett Hill and husband Eric of Georgetown TX, Micah Melton of Hutto TX, Kassi Melton of Hutto TX; 19 Great Grandchildren; and Siblings, Geneva Barnes and husband Bubba of Hutto, TX, D.R. Melton and wife Sheila of Fentress TX, J.L. Melton of Rice's Crossing TX.


Born in Friendship Community TX, the son of Raymond Louis Melton and Eva Elber Jackson Melton, he spent most of his youth in Taylor and Hutto TX. In his early years, Jimmy worked on the family farm and after graduating from Hutto High School in 1951, he continued to work on the family farm until he was drafted by the Army in 1954 where he served as a Gun Crewman in Long Island NY. He met his wife, Eileen Perrin, at Hutto High School and they were married in 1955 at Hutto Baptist Church. After serving in the Army, Jimmy continued to farm near Hutto TX. In 1963 Jimmy moved the family to Thorndale TX and went to work for ALCOA where he worked as a Tapper Carbon Changer until retirement in August of 1993. He received a Senate Proclamation upon retirement speaking to his professionalism, loyalty, dependability, inspiration to others, and exemplary conduct. It was said that Jimmy was always a Christian example to those around him at work by his quiet disapproval of any inappropriate behavior. Jimmy gained the respect of many not with words but with actions and raised five sons with that same disposition of quiet strength. Jimmy served as a member at First Baptist Church of Thorndale TX for many years until they moved to Hutto TX in 2013. Jimmy loved playing dominos spending time with family, and doing woodworking in his workshop. He created many beautiful things and sold some, but mostly gave them away. Services for Jimmy will be held at 2PM on December 11th 2015 at First Baptist Church in Taylor, TX 76574 with Graveside services to follow at Hutto City Cemetery.
