Leonard J. Bokert, 80 Scotch Plains – Leonard J. Bokert, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday (July 6, 2012) at his home in Scotch Plains. Born and raised in Staten Island, he was a resident of Scotch Plains for over 40 years. Len, having served in the US Army, was a veteran of the Korean War. He was as a partner at both AG Becker and Cowen & Co. in New York City, as wells as Mercer, Bokert, Buckman & Reid before retiring. Len was a former member of the Union League Club in New York City and was an avid tennis player and rose aficionado. He spent his retirement years compiling a book of his favorite words and quote to pass on to this, and future generations. He is survived by his soul mate and devoted wife, Rita; his loving son, Jonathan and his wife, Susan; two loving daughters, Barbara Campbell and her husband, Tom, and Karen Torpey and her husband, Eugene; and three grandchildren, Capt. Justin Bokert, USMC, Craig Torpey and Alyssa Torpey. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Edwin Bokert and his wife, Karen; in-laws Kathy and Billy Meehan; loving nieces and nephews, Jason, Kristen, Kellie, Jairus, Soren, and Mark; and Abigail the Terrible, his parrot. Len's family is so grateful for the support and care provided by Atlantic Home Care & Hospice as well as the Visiting Angels of Scotch Plains. The family will be receiving friends at Memorial Funeral Home in Fanwood, NJ on Monday, July 9th, from 4 PM to 8 PM. The funeral will be from Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, on Tuesday at 10 AM followed a funeral Mass at the Church of St. Theresa, 541 Washington St., Kenilworth, at 11 AM.. Those who wish may make donations to the charity of their choice.
