Charlotte, I saw you for only a minute Monday afternoon. Since then I have talked to several people who remember Jimmy the way I do: as a warm, fun-loving, caring, and intelligent man. Those of us who were fortunate enough to work for him know that he went out of his way to make sure we all felt appreciated for whatever our contributions at work. He knew that dealing with criminal offenders wasn't always easy, but he had a lot of wisdom to pass on to us. And he loved a good story, whether telling it or hearing it. He could make Texas history fascinating--the mark of a good teacher. The world is a poorer place without him. Karen Bowser

Jimmy was one of the warmest, most genuine people I have ever known. His love of life and people was evident. I'll never forget the twinkle in his eye as he told a favorite story. It was the same twinkle he'd get when he'd tell me, "You know, Joe, I don't think you oughta do that." I usually listened to him. I'd be better off if I always had.

Charlotte, It is so true that time nor geography erase bonds of friendship. Even though we have not had frequent contact for decades, that does not lessen the grief I feel for you as you now face this loss. Know that I care and will ask God to surround you with His indescribable peace.

Charlotte,
Many years have passed since we had frequent contact, but you can be assured that the bonds that were formed with you as a favorite friend of mine early in my childhood invoke in me a sympathetic heart as you have had to say goodbye to your Jimmy. Know that I care and always will.

Sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. Thinking of him brings back so many memories, from a fight on the playground at Herty elementary in the second grade, trips with his family in high school, selling watermelons on the roadside, football games in the front yard, introduction to the Methodist Church and a visit in the hospital when my sister passed away. He will be missed by all of us who knew him.
