Jimmy Valdes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 2 to Dec. 3, 2022.
On Thursday, November 24, Jimmy Valdes - beloved husband, cherished friend, and avid Mets and Cowboys' fan - passed away at age fifty-five.

A proud New Yorker, he was a distinguished alumnus of the Henry Viscardi school and a summa cum laude graduate of St. John's University. An Emmy award-winning contributor to CBS Sports since 1991, his work ethic and high standard of excellence impacted his entire CBS Sports family. Jimmy worked tirelessly throughout each NFL season and March Madness, earning a relaxing 4th of July with a Nathan's hot dog and a bloody mary. Although Jimmy lived his life from a wheelchair, he refused to be defined by his disability. Instead, he embraced an attitude of gratitude which rubbed off on everyone he met. He once said "there is a long list of things I can't do, but there is also a long list of things I can do" and he set out to conquer them all, making every day count.

Jimmy's ability to find the good in any situation inspired all who knew him and he leaves behind a legacy of friends from all walks of life. Those that knew him will remember his smile, his laugh, and the effortless way he lit up a room with his presence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Isora. He is survived by his wife Julie, the love of his life.

I met Jimmy during spring break in Daytona beach when I was working on events and I met him and he was such a great dude, his smile and his attitude was infectious.. a man who was dealt a bad hand but ended up with a full house..

The world was definitely a better place having Jimmy around. It seemed Jimmy had the attitude if life gives you lemons make lemonade out of the lemons and share the lemonade with everyone you meet. Les

Jim and I shared our childhood together. Always welcomed when we played in the street. Jim often went home with dirt on his face or arms from playing baseball or football (great blocker) with us.

When we rode bikes, we made small ramps for jumps. We had Jimmy jump a small ramp or two while in his wheelchair. Sorry to say, but yes, Jimmy wiped out like the rest of us.

We saw Star Wars and the Bucky Dent Home Run together... I will miss my friend and inspiration, Jimmy Valdes. Rest in peace buddy!

Julie I am saddened and heartbroken to hear about the sudden loss of Jimmy. Jimmy and I went to HVS together, although jimmy graduated a year ahead of me. He was always very kind to all, and always had the best sense of humor. You and the rest of Jimmys family are in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. I wish that I could be there for the service, but I live in Florida.
