Jimmy W. Wells, 72, of Ellaville, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at his home.Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday at 4 p.m. at the chapel of Tante Funeral Home in Buena Vista with the Rev. Graton Helms officiating, with burial following immediately in the Tazewell Cemetery.Mr. Wells was born Jan. 8, 1936, in Marion County to James Walter and Frances Smith Wells. He was preceded in death by his father, by his stepfather Wilson Hicks and by his first wife Anita Israel Wells. He had lived in Ellaville since 1959, and was a farmer. He had served on the Flint EMC Board of Directors for 25 years. As a member of Concord United Methodist Church of Ellaville, he had served as Sunday School superintendent for 20 years and had done missionary work in Haiti.He is survived by his mother, Frances Smith Hicks of Tazewell; by his wife, Betty Preston Wells; by two children, Jim Wells Jr. and wife Barbara of Parrott, and Mary Frances Rockenhaus and husband Fred of Ellaville; and by five stepchildren, Vance Streeter and wife Carol of Buena Vista, Linda Eason and husband Smitty of Americus, Keith Streeter and wife Robin of Rockford, Ill., Tommy Jackson of Woodstock and Bill Jackson and wife Jennifer of Ellaville. He is also survived by a sister, Jane Killingsworth and husband Rudy of Buena Vista as well as 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Memorial gifts may be made to Concord United Methodist Church, P.O. Active pallbearers were Bump Welch, Curt Welch, Taylor Welch, Frank Killingsworth, Randy Yelverton and David Brock. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Flint Board of Directors and the Buck Creek Stag Club.
