Jimmy Whittington Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 18, 2024.
Jimmy was born on December 30, 1961, in Midland, TX, to James and Ginny Whittington. As the youngest of three children, he grew up in Shreveport and graduated from Huntington High School in 1979.

Beloved husband to Inger Whittington for 32 years, Jimmy was a devoted father to his daughter, Ellen Whittington, and son, Arlen Whittington. He was a cherished brother to Glenn and wife Dianne Whittington, and uncle to Rich Whittington, Lara Clark, Owen Pratt, and Neal Pratt. He was preceded in death by his father, James Whittington, mother, Ginny Whittington, and sister, Patty Williams.

In his career, Jimmy worked as a Caddo Parish Right-of-Way agent for 25 years and served as a Blanchard alderman for 16 years. Dedicated to his community, he always strived to make a positive impact.

Outside of work, Jimmy had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He loved attending his children's ball games and supporting them in their endeavors.

Known for his vibrant personality and fun-loving nature, Jimmy was a joyous individual who never met a stranger and was unapologetically himself. He will be remembered for his loud laughter and his ability to bring happiness to those around him.

Jimmy's life will be celebrated at a funeral service on January 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Theresa McConnell.

Inger is our niece, my Brother Jimmy's only child before he was killed in the submarine Scorpio in the Atlantic Ocean. I never got to know Jimmy Whittington since I moved away to start a sustainable farm with my husband in the Ozarks at the Headwaters of the Buffalo. Inger came to visit. I always think Of my brother Jimmy when I think of Jimmy Whittington---I love reading all these wonderful things friends have written about Inger's Jimmy. Love you Inger and the loving memories inspired by Jimmy.

Jimmy was a joy to know. We sit next to each other at the board of alderman meetings. He was a gentleman and made us all laugh but was a good steward of his position for the town of Blanchard. I already miss him. Till we all meet again in heaven rest in peace jimmy

Jimmy, would always make me and my wife laugh. He was a great man. Our sons played little league together and would spend the night with each other. Nick always loved staying over at Arlen´s house because Big Jimmy ( that´s what I called him ) was so much fun. I always looked forward to baseball season because we´d see each other on a regular basis. Big Jimmy is/was a great man. God broke the mold when he made him and I was one of the lucky ones who met him and was lucky enough to call him a friend. Rest easy Big Jimmy.

We met Jimmy and Inger in 1999 at Lakeview UMC. This particular Sunday Jimmy was the liturgist reading from the Bible. His accent was unique, a Southern gentleman style with a way of accenting long vowels (like when he referred to Inger as his "briiide").

Always ready to do anything to help anyone, Jimmy was always a delight to be around. His smile was infectious as was his laugh.

Our kids were in a carpool together, and our younger son, Kurt, remembers Mr. Jimmy's preference for listening to KEEL radio on the way to Shreve Island Elementary.

Rest in peace, my friend, and may God hold Inger, Ellen and Arlen in His loving arms!

Jimmy was the first person who welcomed me to my new job in public service. In the over 19 years that I knew him he was always extremely friendly and helpful. He was truly dedicated and knowledgeable public servant. Every time I saw Jimmy he was able to put a smile on my face.

I will always remember Jimmy's smile and laughter. But what I remember most was his kindness and compassion for others. If someone needed him he was always there. My thoughts and prayers go out to Ellen and Arlen. He was so proud of you both. I am praying for Inger as she goes forward

I remember Tuffy, Jimmy and myself playing football in Tuffy's front yard. The great times we had at the lake fishing and water skiing and when Miss Inger came along. The hunting trips together the fun and fellowship we shared, The hard times we endured as well as the good times we shared. My hearts broken you will forever be as my brother. Gonna miss you so much.
