Joan Butrico Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2025.
Joan M. Butrico, 94, passed away peacefully at her home in North Plainfield, NJ, on August 8, 2025. Born in Plainfield, NJ, on May 26, 1931, to Harry and Dorothy Ferrari, Joan's life was defined by resilience, love, and commitment to her family.

Growing up in North Plainfield, Joan faced significant challenges early on. At just 15 years old, she made the difficult decision to leave school to care for her younger sister following the tragic loss of her mother. Many years later, driven by a desire for personal growth and to set an example for her children, she returned to education and obtained her GED.

In 1950, Joan met William (Bill) Butrico, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter in South Plainfield, NJ. For fifty years, they created a warm and nurturing home while raising their three children. In 1970, Joan began her career at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ, as a receptionist. She later worked in various doctor's offices in the Plainfield area and served as an office manager at an eye center before retiring. In 2001, Joan and Bill embraced a new adventure in Florida, where they enjoyed life together until returning to New Jersey in 2013.

Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband, William (Bill), as well as her sister Beverly and brother Curtis. She is survived by her children, William (Sue), Dottie (David), and Richard; seven grandchildren, Laura Butrico, Jennifer Coghlan (Jim), Alison Kaplan (Jay), Kaitlyn Jones, David Jones (Michelle), Caryn Butrico, and Kirsti Mundy (Brock); and ten great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and light to her life.

An avid reader, skilled seamstress, and talented baker, Joan had a special fondness for creating delicious, sweet treats that delighted her family and friends.

A memorial service honoring Joan will be held privately for her family, reflecting the love and cherished memories they hold dear.
