Joan COUTTS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 28 to May 27, 2021.
It's with great sadness that we say goodbye to Joan, Mrs. "C", mamasita, mom, and grandma. She passed peacefully on April 18, 2021, with the love of her family and the love of her many friends and people that she helped out in her long life. Joan was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on November 24, 1932. She became a nurse and practiced her profession in Argentina, England and Canada. She married the love of her life Ron (deceased) and together they raised five unique individuals. "Do what you love!", she always said and they did. Alex (Donna), Rick, (Sandy), Sal (Pancho), Rod (Anita), and Simon; grandchildren, Scott and Lauren; Ja, Ves, and Lo; Andrew and Noah; and Olivia and Emerson.
Joan loved life, family and lived it to the fullest. She loved to travel, was a lifelong participant in Rotary, Spanish teacher and translator, awesome tour guide, passionate animal lover and helping hand to those that needed one. In summary, Joan was a lioness... a force of nature... generous with her most valued possession – time. Wife, mother, mentor, volunteer, grandma... a lover of music, dancing, dinner parties, and good conversation. She deeply impacted many lives and will be missed dearly... family first... she was truly loved... rest in peace Mrs. "C". A "Legend" as stated by one of her grandchildren.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and care staff at Lions Gate Hospital who looked after our beloved mother. Without their gentle and compassionate care, we could not have given Joan the peaceful passing that she had with her family.

I have many happy memories of times spent with Joan (+Ron) in Vancouver after I emigrated to Canada 52 years ago. I particularly remember the times we got together with the `Gang´ mostly nurses, me being the odd one out as a teacher. Joan was very caring and a great hostess. I remember she taught me how to make Indian curry, which I make to this day, using all the same spices.
I will treasure many happy memories spent with Joan. She will be sorely missed.

That is heartbreaking news. She was blessed to have some of you by her side, and likewise for you to be able to share last moments with her.
It´s never an easy time, but I found when dad died it was a very peaceful time at the very end, like a big weight lifted off the entire room. Very special to be able to have that.
I loved corresponding with Joan, shared events and photos, gave me a connection to my mom, as well as keeping up on all you guys. She sure loved all of you, proud of who you all are, proud to be mom, grand mom, and for us a beloved friend of decades.
Hopefully she and my mom are having tea and catching up on 35+ years of events.
I´ve passed your note to Allan, he sends his condolences, as well as his best wishes to you all.
Please keep us posted when the time comes to celebrate, we would love a road trip to do so.
In the mean time, hugs to you all. Please pass our well wishes to all the others in your family. My saying is "there´s only ever one mom, cherish her". Sounds like you all did that.
Ken, or as Joan would say, Kenny, lol!

We are so sad to hear of Joan's death. Some folks you hope will live forever because they contribute so much and mean so much to so many. But I suppose we all should be content with a life well lived.
We are in Mazatlan with a plan to get home mid May. We certainly feel safer here than we will at home if the news is any guide.
Please know our thoughts are with you, Pancho, Ja and the rest of your family

We learned today that Joan died, following a stroke Easter Monday. We were really truly saddened to hear this.

Joan was a wonderful person whom we enjoyed and appreciated so much. She was so down to earth, intelligent, capable, enthusiastic, supportive - the list goes on. We enjoyed spending time with her. Mum and Dad counted her as one of their dearest friends, I know, enjoying traveling with her and having her advise them on trips, too!

She loved telling us about you and the rest of the family. She was so proud of you all and justly so. All followed such different lives but did so with happiness and success and strength and courage. We knew that this was partly because of the parenting she and Ron gave you.

I'm not sure who is going to win Laudate Singers' salted caramels at the next auction! Joan was always fiercely determined to win them, I think not so much because she loved them but because her granddaughter loved them so much. Just one little memory of Joan that will come to me every fall.

Blessing on you and the rest of the family as you go forward.

We are truly saddened to tell you that Joan Coutts died on Sunday morning in Lions Gate hospital after suffering a stroke on Easter Monday.  Joan joined the Highlands community a few years ago and in the short time she was with  us, she touched many hearts. With your help, she found a home at Highlands and contributed to many endeavors with her passion for sewing, knitting and helping others.  Joan was fiercely independent, determined, and deeply courageous and we will miss her.  I am was grateful to be able to visit her last week and to bring the gift of your love and prayers.  She died with family near, wrapped in a Highlands prayer shawl and embraced with love.  Her family are deeply grateful for the welcome you gave her and the prayers that eased her onward on her journey home.

Blessings,
Colleen Blair

I am so sad and sorry to hear this news ... I am just weeping ...
She has always been such a strong woman, so kind hearted and generous to so many, so practical, capable, putting her hand to so many crafts and tasks, and a helping hand to so many, and a real character, and she so loved her family and was so proud, and rightly so, of each of them.
It is so heart breaking that her generation is gradually leaving us ... we are so lucky to have been offspring of that generation whose lives spanned so many changes in the world, and whose experiences they shared with us and which moulded who we are with values and cares, and perspectives that are less and less part of today´s societies.
I know that you will all be surrounding her with much love and light, and music ...
Un gran abrazo y con todo carino
Muchos pensamientos

So sorry Sal, but I´m so happy her passing was peaceful and loving. I don´t have any of the boys´ contact information (Alex and family, Richard and Sandy, Simon and his girls and Rodney and family). Please tell them how much we are thinking of them. Your mom was a force of nature - a woman who put family, including us, highest on her priority list and she will be missed by us all a lot. For you particularly, I know how close your bond was with her and for Ja too as well as for Ves, Lo-ly and of course Pancho, our love many hugs and prayers for your peace to come your way from us. Love you lots cuz. And thinking of you. Wish I could be there with you at this time.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this note. I immediately adopted Joan as my mom in the early 80’s and am not sure that I have met a more generous and loving person. My thoughts are with all of her family and take this opportunity to say ‘hey’! Hopefully our paths cross in the near future and we are allowed to hug!

Very sad to hear of Joan’s passing but know she went surrounded by love. I always admired her greatly and her kindness and generosity to my family will never be forgotten. She was an amazing woman with a great heart and a wonderful friend and support to my mother Patricia Earley. Since meeting her I always felt she set an example to me that I would have to work very hard to live up to. She extended her care to me and my family when we greatly needed it. I will carry her memory in my heart forever.
