Joan F Doughty

Joan "Jo Ann" Frances Doughty, 80, of Cumberland, Maine, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, Maine.

Joan was born on March 6, 1937 in Portland, Maine to James Neales and Ellen Hight Neales. She spent her early life living in Portland attending local schools. She met the love her life Dwight Doughty, Sr. and married on September 20, 1958. Joan and Dwight raised three children in Cumberland, Dwight Doughty, Jr., Brenda Doughty and Douglas Doughty.

Joan loved all children and was a kind and steady figure in the lives of her family and community. She will be remembered for giving unselfishly to positively impact the lives of her children and grandchildren.

Although quiet, she was known for leaving an impression on those who knew her through her compassion and kindness. Joan was also loved for her passionate approach to protecting family and those close to her, and she was known to be feisty when the situation called for it.

Surviving are her husband, Dwight Aaron Doughty, Sr. of Cumberland; two sons, Dwight Doughty, Jr. of Winthrop, Douglas Allen Doughty of Portland; a daughter, Brenda Lee Doughty of Brunswick; and 7 grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held at 4-7 PM, Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, ME.

A graveside service will be held on December 8, 2017 at 10 AM at Walnut Hill Cemetery in North Yarmouth, ME.
