Joan C. Dyer

Joan C. Dyer, 83, of Black Brook Road, Middle Grove, passed away at home on Saturday December 5, 2020 with her loving husband at her side. She was born in Schenectady on October 24, 1937 a daughter of Samuel and Nellie Croote VanPatten and attended Draper High School. Joan was a lifelong area resident and lived in Middle Grove since 1984. Mrs. Dyer was employed as an accounts payable clerk at GE in Schenectady. She was also a published poet and enjoyed writing poetry. Joan was the editor of the Providence Newsletter for fifteen years and a member of the Providence Volunteer Fire Auxiliary for twenty-three years. She was a member of the Gloversville Senior Center Writers Circle and a trustee at the Barkersville Cemetery. Joan was a former member of the Providence Board of Assessment Review. She enjoyed reading, crafting, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Raymond J. Dyer, Jr., whom she married on November 28, 1980; three children, William (Jenny) Britten, Donna Carrigan, and Randolph (Marie) Britten, all of Schenectady; two brothers, Richard (Joan) VanPatten of Scotia and David VanPatten of Texas; a sister, Lola Adair of Worcester, NY; three stepsisters, Helen Myers and Maryann Allen, both of Texas and Della (William) Longberry of California; and seven grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown followed by a Memorial service at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Rick McKeever, officiating. In accordance with current health guidelines, facial coverings and social distancing are required. Memorial contributions may be made to the Galway Ambulance Corp, in care of the funeral home.
