Joan Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 19, 2025.
Joan Doris Jones, born on June 8, 1929, in South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, in San Diego, California.

Joan was the beloved wife of Lowery Kenneth Jones Jr., with whom she shared 76 years of marriage. They both grew up in Dayton, Ohio, and eventually moved to California in 1969. She is survived by her husband, Lowery "Ken" Jones; daughters, Karen Ebner (Gary) and Lori Hollis (Rick); four grandchildren, Christina Lund (Eric), Rachel Turner (Sean), Keith Ebner (Kris), and Lisa Ebner-Babb (David); and five great-grandchildren, Kaden Lund, Abigail Turner, Evan Lund, Jameson Turner, and Maxwell Ebner. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Laurila, as well as many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Florence Surrell.

In her early years, Joan worked as a secretary before dedicating herself to raising her daughters. She later worked in medical offices and remained an active volunteer throughout her life. She contributed her time and talents to organizations such as the Girl Scouts, Red Cross, League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood, local hospitals, and several church offices.

Joan had a deep love for reading and genealogy research and found great joy in traveling. She and Ken explored much of the country in their RV, visiting nearly every state. In their retirement years, they also enjoyed many trips to Europe.

She was a source of wisdom and comfort to those around her, always ready to listen and offer guidance and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Miramar National Cemetery, followed by a gathering at the home of Rick and Lori Hollis.

Joan's legacy of kindness and wisdom will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.

I am so saddened by Aunt Joan's passing. She was a truly wonderful person whose kindness, warmth and love touched so many lives. I have fond memories of her from my childhood and wish I could be there to honor her life with you all. Uncle Ken, Karen, and Lori, you were so thoughtful to share your loving memories of my mother with Chris and I when she passed recently. My heart is with the family during this difficult time, and I pray that wonderful memories of her bring you peace.
Much love,
Angie (Richard) Audia
