Joan Laird was my Grade 12 (1962/63) and Grade 13 (1963/64) English teacher at York Memorial Collegiate Institute. A couple of years later, my younger brother was fortunate as I had been to have Miss Laird as his English teacher. Even today, both of in our late '70s, remember her classes, her sayings, her opinions and her love of the dictionary. She made a deep and lasting impression on her students with her knowledge of and her passion for English Literature.
