My first memory of Joan Plowright was as Daisy Werthan in the unsold tv series pilot of Driving Miss Daisy played in the feature film by Jessica Tandy. Plowright was very spot on in the part, Good chemistry with the late Robert Guillaume as Hoke-Morgan Freeman's film role. She was also in Dennis the menace as Martha Wilson working well with the late Walter Matthau as George Wilson. R.I.P. Joan Plowright, You were terrific

As a child of the 50's - 60's comic books were so often our escape into the world of fantasy and so it was with Dennis the Menace. In 1993 those childhoods were brought to life in such a way. Joan's character of Martha along Walter Matthau's Mr Wilson along with other cast members was truely magical.
To Joan's families my sincere condolences for your loss as we have all lost a truely remarkable woman of our time.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family for your loss. Joan Plowright was a wife, a mother, a grandmother and no doubt a good friend to all who knew her personally and professionally. "Sorrow" is too small a word for what you are going through. Even in times when there are no words, I hope there's comfort in knowing so many people are thinking of you and holding you close in their hearts.
May you always keep treasured memories of Ms. Plowright in your heart and may you also find comfort in knowing that those who have passed on in death God keeps in his memory because they all are precious in his eyes. And may he give you the strength needed as you continue on the journey of life.
Respectively,
RB

Was fortunate enough to see Plowright and her husband Lawrence Olivier perform "The Merchant of Venice" in London many years ago. Production was staged in Edwardian costume and I vividly recall arrogantly thinking "So these two are supposed to be the greatest actors living today; well, I'll be the judge of that." Humbly, the performance was the greatest live performance of any kind I have witnessed in my 81 years on earth. Thank you Dame Joan and Sir Lawrence! You gave me a benchmark I will, happily, never surpass. God Bless you both and Rest in Peace! Dr. Michael Banks, NYC & Florida
