1921 – 2012
Joan Mary van der Star, née Barnes, of Ste- Marthe, Quebec, died peacefully at home on June 13, just short of her 91st birthday. Predeceased by her husband Commander Aart Willem van der Star, RNN ret. in 1986, she is survived by her children Helen (Chris Haslam), Aart "Bill" (Pat Barrett), and Robert, as well as her grandson Michael Haslam. A memorial service, in presence of her ashes, will take place at St. James Anglican Church, 642 Main Road, Hudson, at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20th, 2012. The family will receive condolences from 2:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the World Wildlife Fund would be appreciated.
