JoAnn Hudson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 29, 2023.
On Monday, January 9, 2023, JoAnn Posey Brummett Hudson passed away at the age of 84. Faithful and loving wife, adoring mother, doting grandmother and caring friend. Born on December 8, 1938 in a small farmhouse in Canutillo, TX to Edwin and Jessie Pearl Posey, she was once described by her father as a "little monkey." JoAnn was an active little prankster who enjoyed hanging out with her two older brothers, Beldon and Billy Stewart. She became the protective older sister to Edwin Eugene "Genie" Posey, who suffered from Cerebral Palsy, when she was 4 years of age. JoAnn met and married country musician Robert "Bob" Brummett in 1959 and the couple had two children together. Following Bob's passing in 1967, she then married James W. Hudson in November of 1973.

JoAnn was a stay at home mom until 1977 when she began working in Early Childhood Education as an Infant/Toddler Teacher. She eventually moved into management positions at several childcare facilities before becoming an office manager for several properties prior to her retirement.

As beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside, JoAnn was a kind and forgiving person who put everyone above herself. Family was the most important thing to JoAnn and her parents always lived close by throughout her life. She loved country music and, in her younger days, enjoyed going out and dancing the two-step. She had a voice like Patsy Cline and when she sang "Crazy" during karaoke, you would swear it was a recording.

JoAnn loved hanging out in her yard with all her beautiful plants, flowers and trees while watching the humming birds who flocked to the feeder she kept full for their enjoyment. She loved to laugh, she had a beautiful laugh and sense of humor. She loved practical jokes and enjoyed watching America's Funniest Home Videos. She enjoyed NCIS, Blue Bloods and Bull. Baseball was her passion and she was a huge Atlanta Braves fan. She got to attend two Brave's games in Phoenix, AZ when they played the Diamond Backs. She loved shopping and eating at the Chinese Buffet. She loved her friends and spent many nights with a packed house of guests playing Rummy or a good spirited game of Aggravation.

JoAnn had an amazing faith in God and believed wholly in the power of prayer. She and James attended All Saints Episcopal Church before his illness made it too difficult to attend regularly. Her favorite scripture in which she quoted often was "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me," Philippian's 4:13.

JoAnn is survived by her two children, Kenneth Nolan Brummett of El Paso, TX, and Deborah Brummett Parks of Las Cruces, NM; John Brummett of Metamora, IN and Theresa Brummett Lannin of Connersville, IN, Bob's children from his first marriage; cousin, Mary Del Posey, of Capitan, NM, and finally, Stacy Kirsten Parks of Las Cruces, NM, her only grandchild and light of her life.

She is preceded in death by both husbands, her parents and all three of her brothers.

A memorial service is planned and will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 7050 McNutt Road, Anthony, NM, 88021, on February 9th at 11:00 AM, with a small reception following to celebrate her life. Attendance is welcome.

(Private Committal/Interment of Ashes will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery)

Flowers can be sent through Legacy.com directly to the church.

(In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Luke's will be greatly appreciated)

Life has been a whirlwind for the last two years. From reconnecting, to getting to experience the joy of extended family. Getting to know your mom was such a privilege. She had a beautiful heart and soul. We enjoyed the phone calls and cards, and the love she showed to us. I know you all are going to miss her, because we miss her already. Wish we could be there to give you all a big hug, but please remember we love you and are praying for you. Love you, John and Mona Brummett

JoAnn was a special person. We met at Glad Tidings AG Church in the mid 70s where she taught our older daughter to memorize scripture, Psalm 23 was one, during the time she committed herself to teaching children Sunday School. The Posey's were wonderful people and both our daughters enjoyed many times with the entire fam I ly as they grew up here in El Paso. When JoAnn met James Hudson, we were all thrilled for them and the children. As a friend, she wore my wedding gown to Wed James. Many wo derful memories of a precious time for our family, but especially because of the joy we had by being around JoAnn and her genuine love for all. We send our deepest heartfelt condolences to those she left behind, especially, Ken, Deb, and Stacy. Our prayers for God's peace and the comfort of His Holy Spirit upon them in the coming time of bereavement. May the Light of Jesus Christ shine upon them as they reflect upon the love Of God showed to all she came in contact with in this life. Sincerely, the Trouts
