Joanne Boyce Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 20, 2025.
Joanne Marie Boyce passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025 at the age of 73. Beloved wife of the late James Walker Boyce and devoted, loving mother of Sarah (John Thompson).

Born in Detroit, Michigan on July 17, 1951 to Robert Edward Liddell and Emma Frances Wise, she was the first daughter in a family of 6 children. Joanne grew up in Redford Township and attended Thurston High School. For 36 years, Joanne worked as a pharmacy technician in Novi, Michigan. At work, she was known for her kindness and dedication. Later in her career, she developed caring relationships with several seniors who were regular customers at the pharmacy, even delivering their medication personally.

Joanne adored her family. She met her future husband, James, in German language class during their senior year of high school. They soon became inseparable and were married in 1975. Their 50th wedding anniversary would have been on July 5, 2025. She was a deeply kind and empathetic person, and those attributes made Joanne a wonderful mother. Her love, encouragement, and gentleness were the grounding forces of her daughter's life. She was also a part of many joyous family gatherings over the years with her siblings and their families. For Joanne, her family and her faith were paramount.

In her free time, Joanne enjoyed traveling and camping, taking trips throughout the state of Michigan, out west to Yellowstone National Park, and as far as the North Cascades, Olympic, and Mount Rainier National Parks in Washington. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, crafting everything from embroidered Christmas ornaments, to children's clothes for her daughter, to handmade Halloween costumes. Joanne was also a talented artist from a young age, with an aptitude for drawing from life. The sketchbooks from her youth are filled with sensitively drawn portraits and figure studies. Joanne's creativity brought great joy to her family and remains a source of many happy memories.

Joanne is dearly loved and missed by her daughter, Sarah. She is rejoining her husband James who passed away just four months ago, as well as her parents and her nephew, Zach Liddell. Joanne is survived by five loving siblings, Paul (Juanita) Liddell, Brad (Rosalie) Liddell, Gary (Sandy) Liddell, Peg Leinbach, and Sue (Tim) Iversen, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families. A private memorial will be held by the family.
