Joanne EBERLE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 14, 2018.

JOANNE GENTHON EBERLE
Family, friends and fans gather to celebrate Joanne's life. Born in Colon Panama, Joanne and her parents moved to southern California during grade school. She began her dance studies as a young girl and by teen-hood, was a ballerina. Branching away from ballet Joanne was cast in movies, such as, Oklahoma, A Star is Born, and Some Like It Hot. She was best known for her portrayal as Carlotta Valdez in the 1958 Hitchcock classic, Vertigo. In 1959, Joanne was cast as the witch in Darby O'Gill and the Little People. In 1964, Joanne retired from dancing and movies to marry famed Glenn Miller singer, Ray Eberle. In 1970, she returned to the public eye once again as lead runway model for Jordan Marsh of Palm Beach. Her personal interests revolved around producing and directing local theater for Southside Theater Guild outside of Atlanta. In addition, her interest in Collie breeding and showing won her competition titles. She later became a canine judge for the Collie Club of America. Joanne Genthon Eberle's movies will live on as will her infectious sense of humor. She is survived by four children: John, Ray Jr., Jan, and Laurie. Dancer, actress, model, wife, and mother – her success and memories will live on in us. We are blessed to have shared our life with her.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 18th, 10:30 a.m., at St. Philip Benezi Catholic Church located at: 591 Flint River Rd., Jonesboro, GA. 30238. A lunch reception follows.

Through the mercy of God may she rest in peace.
I loved your movies, Joanne. Vertigo has been an absolute favorite since I was 9. I hated to hear of your passing, but I hope to see you on the other side.

Joanne was an accidental friend and I am so glad. We met at St. Catherine of Siena in Kennesaw, Ga. When we found out shortly later that she didn't have a car, we started giving her rides to and from her apartment. Soon she and I developed a friendship. An unlikely pair we were. About the only things we had in common were height and religion. Beyond that, we are radically different in our political views. But she taught me that she put friends before politics. I think I am a better person because of our friendship. I will never forget her. She made a big impact on my life. I miss her already.

Joanne was a dear friend and she will be missed. We will always remember our days of "dogging" it together and all the fun we had.
Our deepest sympathy to the family.

Joanne became a good friend when we moved to Georgia, and I'll miss the great conversations we had. What a loss to her family, the parish and to all her friends. We'll keep the happy memories closest.
