Jodel or Joe as he was known, was a caring, intelligent, quiet and private man. He was a devoted husband to his wife Maribel. He loved his family dearly, especially his children and grandchildren. Jodel was born on July 28, 1961 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to Edner and Yvonne Mirville Blain. He left Haiti at a young age when the family moved to Brooklyn, New York. Joe was the second oldest in a family of eight. He grew up with seven other siblings, an older sister, Nadine, and six younger siblings, Carl, Thierry, Kelly, Madlyn, Richard and Alan.
As a young child Joe always knew he would fly. Anyone who knew Joe, knew how much he loved flying. You could see the excitement in his eyes and hear it in his voice, whenever he was explaining the different types of planes and their types of engines. That was his passion. As long as I can remember, he was either building model airplanes, flying model planes or building and flying model rockets. He would often go to the park with one or more of his brothers to fly his planes or launch his rockets. They would spend hours flying kites, model airplanes or launching rockets into the air. As a teenager and young adult he would also spend a lot of his time going to the hobby shops to find the latest model kits available. Joe was also an artist. He could precisely draw any airplane off the top of his head. Joe always excelled in school. He graduated from Edward R. Murrow High School Brooklyn New York (NY) and went on to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona. Although he could not complete his schooling there because of financial reasons, he did not let that stop him from reaching his goal of becoming a pilot. He never let anything stop him from reaching his goals.
Joe married his first wife and had two children, Charlene and Kenneth.
He went back to school, to the University of Central Florida, where he earned a B.S. in Engineering. He met the "love of his life", his second wife, Maribel Rodriguez. He met her while working as a technician for IBM. Since that time they have been inseparable. This was 23 years ago.
He was a flight instructor at various airports around the country, including California and Florida, to earn enough hours to qualify as a commercial airline pilot. He went on to work with 3 commercial airlines with Spirit being the most recent.
He piloted the large commercial aircrafts, such as the Airbus (A) 319, 320, 321. Joe and Maribel loved to travel every chance they had. Their travels included Mexico, Hawaii, Barbados, Turks and Caicos and the Dominican Republic. Joe has also lived almost everywhere in Florida and in many places in the United States. Wherever he went, he always had his loving wife, "Bel" by his side. Although he loved flying, he loved his grandchildren more.
The current "twinkle" in his eye was his grandchildren Jordan, Kenny Jr. and Jada. Throughout his life, Joe touched the lives of many, giving and helping those he knew and loved. Joe leaves behind him a legacy of lifelong friendships, cherished memories and a family who will miss him deeply.

It was like yesterday you were still here with us playing on the Kinect, and now I remain with another piece of my spirit taken away, I miss you, Grandma Maribell misses you, everyone does, I hope you and Dad are having a good time together watching me travel the path to success, I have hit honors classes, I plan to do many things with the life I’ve been granted, including making a successful business to suit everyone’s needs, I think I’ll name it Blain’s Endeavors to remind me of you, dad and all of my deceased relatives, You’ll like what you see :). Anyway, see you up there, love you always.

Sincerely, Kenneth Jr. , Age 14, Year 2020

Au revoir cousin/Neveu!

It seems like it was yesterday that I used to watch you when you were walking out of apt. F1 with a radio in your hand, you were the definition of cool. When I used to spend summer vacations in NY, I remember that you would always take the time to sit-down with me and chat about life in Montreal, I appreciated these moments; they made me feel like a grown-up. Even if I hadn't seen you in a long time, I'd always ask my uncle about you. I was very happy and proud when I heard that you became captain and achieved your dream. That dream was probably instilled in you by the name that you were given, Jodel (which is a French aircraft company founded in the 1940s). So keep on spreading your wings and fly as high as you can, the burden has been lifted from your shoulders.

Jodel was my cousin. I have always told my son Ryan to follow in his footsteps as peruses his career as a pilot. Jodel was a fine father, wonderful husband and a great man. We will miss him. I have learned through this experience that I have to stop being so "busy". I WILL seek out the people that matter to me, MY FAMILY and let them know they are special to me. I miss you Joe. Thank you to Aunt Yvonne and Papa Ednair for bring this fine man into this world. Maribel thank you for sharing a great example of what marriage should be. Love you all, Eunice Mirville-Johnson.
Rest in peace Cousin Joe.

Joe I am so sad to hear about your early departure, but you will never be forgotten
Many people remember you as a great pilot and friend but no one was lucky to be your test co-pilot as I did. I will never forget the day that you called me and ask me if I want to go with you on those little planes. I remember that when you asked Maribel she told you I know who you can ask and she will be happy to flight with you. Today when I mentioned this to my friends they always said you were crazy but I knew who I was flying with. Your love, dedication and passion for flying was my security pass I knew I was with THE BEST PILOT. Knowing your passion, love and dedication for flying I never hesitate to said yes I will go with you. Also I remember how we laughed when we discovered that I did not reach the pedals. We discovered that a pilot could not be as short as me but we immediately solved the issue and perform a super-incredible flights, never forget that I was able to see the beautiful South Florida from the air thanks to you. Also I was able to learn very issues that every pilot should take in consideration before they take off so now I appreciated that profession even more thanks to you. I love you Joe and I will miss you.

To the family, again I'm sorry for your loss. As I read through Jodel's obituary I am truly amazed, everything so true, his quiet and loving, caring nature, his hobbies so similar to the rest of us brothers of the sky! What a quiet charming guy. Again I feel so honored to have met and known Jodel. I will continue to keep a little piece of him alive as I carry on myself. Rest in peace J.B.

My condolences goes out to the family of a great man. I worked several flights with Jodel and we had a blast everytime. He was very quiet to some, but my sense of humor had him cracking up and always looked forward to chatting it up with me. He was definitely a family man and would say nothing would keep him from a special event and I knew exactly what he meant. I'm truly going to miss Jodel, but I'm blessed I had the opportunity to get to know him. Rest now my friend there is no more sickness or pain.
