Joe Herrera Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 11, 2014.
Joe C. Herrera was born on September 24, 1941 in Gallup, New Mexico. He lost his biological parents at a young age and was raised by his godparents, Trinidad and Ramona Herrera in California.

Joe had four children, Robert, Patricia, Rene and Jerry but was like a father to many. He met Harral Robin in 1970's and they have been friends and life-long partners since.

Joe was loved by so many. He had an extended family and many friends. Although he didn't see some as often as he used to, they still kept in touch, safe in the unspoken knowledge that they were there for each other if needed.

Joe was a giving person. His generosity was felt by all who knew him. He was known to take many family vacations and not only take his children but him and Harral would often invite nieces and nephews. These little gestures meant so much and made a positive difference in their lives.

He is remembered most for his joy and happy sense of humor. Joe had a way of making things fun, from picking prunes in the orchard to changing soiled diapers. He enjoyed cooking for his family and sometimes when the grandchildren would ask what was for dinner and he would answer "Caca de torro!"

Joe passed away peacefully in his home on Friday evening October 10, with his children, life partner and family members by his side. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Don't think of him
As gone away-
His journey's just begun,
Life holds so many facets-
This earth is only one…
Just think of him as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.
And think of him as living
In the hearts of those he touched…
For nothing loved is ever lost
And he was loved so much.

There are some things you can never hear to often, and you haven't heard them nearly enough - like how important you are to me and how much I love you. I just wanted to tell you this today, but it goes for yesterday and tomorrow too, and for every day I've forgotten to tell you how much you mean to me. I love you from the bottom of my heart Dad! May you rest in peace...

Dad you were a generous and loving man. You made a positive difference in the lives of many. You were a light in the darkness. I am so grateful and feel blessed to have been your daughter. You taught me so much and I will always carry your love with me.
