Joe Modderman

MODDERMAN, Joe July 4, 1924 January 21, 2010 Johannes Jacob Modderman, 85, of Regina, went to his eternal home to his Father in Heaven. Joe is survived by his wife Winnie; sisters Tiny and Co in The Netherlands; children Don, Peter (Helen), Elaine (Harold) Buyze and Yolanda (Jeff) Mang; 13 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Joe was born in Groningen, The Netherlands, to parents Peter and Johanne Modderman, growing up with his two older sisters and two older brothers. He met his beloved wife Bouwina Jantina (Winnie) Teerling shortly after WWII. Joe and Winnie were married in 1954 and immigrated to Canada in 1955. They lived in Toronto for 2 1/2 years and then the next 15 years in Vauxhall, AB, where they raised their family. Joe had a satisfying career working for the PFRA for 29 years in Vauxhall and then later in Regina until retirement in 1988. Through his retirement Joe enjoyed working in the yard and garden. Joe had a generous heart and gave to many charities. For the last three years Joe was diagnosed with ALS, lived with dignity, grace and a strong faith. The last few days were filled with love and peace with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by his side. Joe always felt the blessings of family and faith, and that sustained him until his passing. A VISITATION will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. A CELEBRATION OF JOE'S LIFE will be held at Sonlight Christian Reformed Church, 139 Cannon St, Regina, SK at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 25, 2010. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that any donations in memory of Joe to be made to the Haitian Relief Fund through a charity of your choice.
