Joe Mullinax Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 26, 2025.
Joe Mullinax, 94, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, in Lyman, South Carolina. A devoted member of the community and a man of quiet strength and faith, Joe lived a long and meaningful life rooted in family, service, and steadfast values.

Born on September 22, 1930, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Joe grew up surrounded by the close-knit bonds of his family. He was the son of the late Thomas A. (Jack), and Eva Sue Owensby Mullinax. He was one of several siblings and was preceded in death by his sisters Louise Lawter and Margaret Stoddard, as well as his brothers Richard Mullinax and Harold Mullinax.

Joe proudly served in the South Carolina National Guard, demonstrating a deep commitment to his country and community. His dedication extended beyond military service into every aspect of his life.

A lifelong member of Lyman First Baptist Church, Joe's faith was central to who he was. His kind nature and Christian spirit were evident to all who knew him. Whether through quiet acts of generosity or steadfast support for those around him, Joe embodied the values he held dear.

Family was at the heart of Joe's world. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Stacey Gossett and her husband Lee; his grandson Daniel Gossett and wife Presley; and his great-granddaughter Lucy Gossett. Watching Daniel play baseball brought Joe immense joy over the years-a pastime that connected generations and created cherished memories. He also enjoyed playing golf, finding both camaraderie and peace on the course.

Joe's legacy is one of kindness, humility, and unwavering faith. His presence will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege to know him.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Stacey our thoughts and prayers are with you and family. I´ve had the privilege of knowing Joe my entire life and can´t recall one time seeing him upset or angry. Joe´s demeanor never changed from the genuine caring loving person that he was. I was also fortunate to be named after his brother Richard after his passing. Each time we visited First Baptist after moving from Lyman, Joe was always there with a warm smile and loving greeting. Joe was the real deal, a devoted father and grandfather. I remember him with fondness and happiness at family reunions and other family gatherings. He will truly be missed. May God´s loving arms and grace give you and family support in the coming days and weeks.

Heart felt sympathy to Joe's family. He was my first cousin on my Daddy's side. My Dad and Joe's Dad were brothers. Sadden to see that Joe was the last of Uncle Jack and Aunt Eva's children. God bless you all in your hour of grief.

Thinking of you Stacey and family. I consider it a blessing to have known Joe for all my life. Not only was he a kind and humble person, but he was an encourager who I will always remember as a true friend.
