Nevin “Joe” Penner, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 10th at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.
He was born June 8, 1927 as the youngest of four children to the late Paul and Hazel (Poffenberger) Penner.
He is preceded in death by his brother William (Penner) and sisters Ruth (Fleagle) and Margaret Jane (Brewbaker).
Joe was born and raised in Hagerstown, where he graduated from North Hagerstown High School.
He was a proud US Navy veteran of WWII and worked as a foreman at Danzer Metal Works in Hagerstown until retirement.
Joe was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, avid gardener, carpenter, and NASCAR racing fan.
He was a kind and generous husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. He was well-loved in life and made friends everywhere he went.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Carol (Divelbiss) Penner, daughter Pamela (Duchateau), son-in-law Dean, granddaughter Jennifer (Frank) and great-grandson Bodhi.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, October 19th, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave, Hagerstown with Rev. Randy Reid officiating.
Inurnment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the US Navy and Joint Veterans Council honor guards.
Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave., Hagerstown MD 21740.

Joes Family,
My condolences for the loss of Joe. He was the first boss i ever had when i started to work. Danzer was my first job and Joe treated me like i worked there for years. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
